Given a one time only opportunity to start Pickford on Boxing day, would you send McLaughlin to the bench?
I would start Pickford, just to see him again in our colours, plus he is an international keeper who has played in a World Cup semi final. Having said that, I looked up McLaughlin's stats a couple of months ago, and couldn't believe he'd scratched around in the lower leagues all his career. Either he's matured a lot with age or the coaching has improved him, but he's a brilliant safe pair of hands at this level and surely in the Championship as well (when we get there).
This has to be a joke haha. Pickford is England's number one, one of the best in the world, there's talk of Man United lining up a £70m bid to make him the most expensive goalkeeper in history. As much as I like McLaughlin he is, quite literally, not even in the same league. It's a no-brainer.
Utterly ridiculous question. One is playing league one football, the other an international number one.
Is it a ridiculous/silly question, or is this not just someone asking a hypothetical question, and stimulating conversation It's never going to be a possibility, but it's creating discussion, and a bit of humour Actually, it is a silly question
W/O any hesitation, you'd start England's #1, just three days after he had to pick the ball out of the back of the net 6 times, over the guy we must rely upon for promotion the rest of the way? Another factor in this: assuming Pickford took yesterday's results to heart, would playing in front of 40k+ at the SOL be just what the doctor ordered, or something Pickford might find uncomfortable?
Pickford never once buckled under the pressure when the team was falling around him, and he will be back with a vengeance for Everton as well. The lad is superb, and he’s mentally tough as granite. All keepers have howlers. De Gea is the best in the world, makes mistakes. Alison at Liverpool, top keeper, makes gaffes. Nature of the beast being a one man show. McG has been superb and he’s a top keeper for the level (and likely one more), but he’s not in the same stratosphere as Jordan.
A couple of seasons ago the debate was Pickford or Mannone, and it was a close call. Heres a bit of fun, Virgil Van Dyke and Denayer, or Baldwin and OzTurk for Boxing Day. Answers on a postcard to Father Christmas, but hurry, first class stamp required.
Pickford pressure means he must take responsibility Nobody in the Premier League has made more individual errors leading to goals than Jordan Pickford this season. His wayward pass against West Ham United earlier in the campaign has now been compounded by horrible errors against Liverpool and Tottenham. Sadly for the goalkeeper, he's picked up an unfortunate knack of making mistakes that cost his side in big moments. Pickford was guilty of gifting West Ham their opener at Goodison as the Hammers picked up a surprise victory while the Divock Origi's winner for Liverpool holds no need to be revisited. But today's error turned the tide against Everton in the worst possible way. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-analysis-only-one-man-15591350
What’s your point? He does make mistakes but for anyone to suggest he’s not an outstanding keeper shows a total lack of knowledge of the game. I wonder how many saves he’s made that have earned points? The most important stat for a keeper, but rarely published. All keepers make mistakes, de Gea, Oblak, Lloris, all of them.
McLaughlins distribution is about the worst I have ever came across. Makes you wonder what the goalkeeping coach is doing.
What sort of question is this? One of the best goalkeepers in the world or someone who hasn’t played above league 1 level!
It's about loyalty to the local lad, who left, but is now England's #1, or to the guy actually wearing the shirt, and will be vital to the promotion push. And it considers the psychological affect of allowing 6 goals, hero or not, just three days before the next match, which just so happens to be on boxing day.
One of the most overrated goalkeepers in the world. Great shot stopper, but there are no penalty shootouts in the Premier League. By the time he sharpens his decision making, the reflexes will have dulled. The legendary distribution from the lower leagues, doesn't work in the Premier League. Just the other day, against your boys, he picked out Walcott, in space, on the attacking half of the pitch, but the player assigned the responsibility to snuff out the long counter easily tracked back to cover.
