The day after yesterday... Interesting how certain things are starting to come out now.
"Joey was disappointed. There was no way we were going to take a cut in his wages. He wanted four years, they wanted three" McKay
Strange? I though Joey 'I love the Toon' Barton stated he would take a paycut to stay in the great North East.
"Supporters had spotted him arguing with both John Carver and Steve Stone during the warm-up and his agent Willie McKay told Talksport yesterday that the decision to strip him of corner kick and free-kick duties had irked him. It is understood he also wasn’t happy at being overlooked for the captaincy"
Is this the team spirit that Barton was desperate to install in our team 2 weeks before the start of our new campaign?
As for Owlhead, well we know he is a idiot.
That said the reality is Joseph has engineered his exit. He doesn't give two ****s about the Toon; him and his horrible agent only care for themselves. If he had the passion he claims for NUFC and the intelligence to match this ****storm would never have happened.
Newcastle is bigger than McKay, Barton and Llambias put together. Now is not the time for plastic protests which would only propel NUFC onto the menu of the media frenzy. Now is the time to support our great team.

If Barton is throwing the toys out the pram for not being able to take the set pieces and the fact he wasn't cpt, in a meaningless friendly may I add, then we had to get rid as that attitude is totally pathetic. As for Willie McKay, he should be in the slammer with Dirty 'Arry!!!

i seem to remember back in jan, barton said he was willing to take a pay cut to stay here but that 1 yr contract diff above must have made all the difference :emoticon-0149-no:

still, i am really pissed off with what happened yesterday, but as you say, anger turns into appathy within 24hrs

Down to the board and no one else for me. I don't mind these cost cutting measures, getting rid of players on good wages left, right and centre. But there are much better ways to go about rather than getting into a load of disputes with players, disrespecting them after what they've done for the club at its lowest ebb in recent years. It all leads to dressing room unrest and an unsettled start to the season. Once again they show their weakness in marrying business with football.

"Supporters had spotted him arguing with both John Carver and Steve Stone during the warm-up and his agent Willie McKay told Talksport yesterday that the decision to strip him of corner kick and free-kick duties had irked him. It is understood he also wasn’t happy at being overlooked for the captaincy" - Putting it bluntly this is pathetic. This happens at football clubs at every level up and down the land. Anyone who has played any kind of football knows this. No big deal and not something to castigate Barton for or try and use as evidence of him not being a team player.

"Joey was disappointed. There was no way we were going to take a cut in his wages. He wanted four years, they wanted three" This is hardly the full story but regardless, he basically wanted the same wages (which are about right for a guy at his level), and fours years, which at 28 with a guy who is fit as a fiddle and looks after himself is pretty standard.

2 reason i dont see him leaving. 1 brilliant as he is the big four want a clean cut image and would not take a punt on barton, even though he is good enough to play for them. And 2 is we pay him 80k a week! No other club would pay him that, why cant joey keep his mouth shut on twitter? Hes a clever bloke but if you slag off your boss publically u aint gunna last long, joey has been very disrespectfull and MA needs to learn to treat people better, he comes across as a cold business man, that said he is a good business man.

So he was lying when he said he would take a pay cut to stay...

And a three year contract is not good enough?

I don't know who to believe anymore.

Oh right i thought he was on 80k lol. Still at 55k a week it prices himself out of everton and bolton, even arsenal dont like to break the 50k mark apart from with the top players.

Massive fault on both sides, Barton has been very unprofessional and hasnt done anything to fix his relationship with the board, but on the other hand the board are totally ****ing useless.

  10. Who said he was lying? You'd rather believe the words of his twat of an agent? Lambarse? The kings of bullshit.

Why would his agent try to make JB look bad? He's trying to put the club down but inadvertently revealed that Barton was lying about the wage cut.

I remember him mentioning it once or twice on twitter.

So that would now make him a ****ing liar.
