According to Gordon Strachan's interview on SSN this morning McGregor has been carrying a long term injury and was not considered for the next 2 Scotland games so hasn't actually been dropped.
Because he hasn't made an absolute clanger yet, all goals conceded haven't been because of poor goalkeeping, just poor defending. He kept 2 clean sheets prior to those 3 games, so anyone who can even criticise him needs a reality check... I hope Rangers go up (Aren't they in the playoffs?) and take him off our hands...
Agree with this, and whilst we're on the subject of defending what has happened to ours, we don't seem to defend as a team at the moment, individual players aren't taking responsibility either. Oh yeah, that'll be Bruce's mantra of keep it tight, retain possession, try and nick a goal if you can. Our defending can **** right off, as can this ****ty 3-5-2 formation that obviously isn't working! If Ash was in with our current starting eleven alongside these over overpaid 'superstars' he'd be blowing a few neck veins each and every week, I mean, honestly, **** knows what he'd make of Huddlestone!!!
He's been sitting on our bench keeping it warm and presumably able to play, so I'll stick to dropped!
We've defended fine. You're gonna concede the odd goal at this level but we still haven't been beaten by four goals since we got promoted, which I think is great for a team our size in the PL. Our problem is entirely scoring.
At one point I would have agreed with that but not anymore I'm afraid, you should go forward as a team and defend as a team, City are doing neither at the moment, they look completely bereft of ideas to be honest.
Yeah I wouldn't disagree with that, I guess that for much of this season we have looked disjointed and unbalanced due to player selection or formation, and due to that our defending as a unit has not been all that it could have been. I'm pretty certain that with the players we have someone like Pulis would have us rock solid as a unit, there again I honestly don't think that he would have tolerated some of the performances from the likes of Huddlestone and Livermore.
I think we've been solid enough. Other teams have conceded more than us and are safe already. Problem is we never score.
I can only think of three, maybe four instances where he has clearly gifted a goal this season, unfortunately they came in very quick succession. A lot of the time people claimed he was at fault when really it was poor defending. Courtois has had more glaring mistakes than Mcgregor has this season.
Harper has parried a few shots too and got away with it whereas Mcgregors seemed to go to the wrong place all the time. A shame Mcgregor isn't fit, I would bring him back for a one-off must win game like this weekends, he's a better shot stopper than Harper, could see him rising to the occasion
