What a player he is turning out to be, i do seem to remember some on here wanting to send him back to forest and not sign him, describing him as a 'Headless Chicken' that won't score goals. He has proved to be a great signing and just goes to show that its not about how much money you throw around, he is on target to get us 20+ goals if his form continues this season.
I was excited to sign him after his form for Coventry. He was terrible in the first game I saw him play. Think it may have been Barnsley? Not too sure. He was all over the shop and weak on the ball - and he didn't exactly set the world alight last season. What a player he is proving to be now though, best goalscorer we've had since the Joe Royle era. It's a shame we didn't hold onto JET and Ed Upson but I think we are moving into a more positive era. It certainly feels like the few years pre-McCarthy are a distant memory.
I don't recall anyone calling him a headless chicken. Many questioned his poor goalscoring record. I don't doubt his ability, he's looks a great player at this level but I do still question if he'll score that 20 goals (mind u 15 would still be decent enough), as I've said before he doesn't get in the box enough, or get on the end of things, score those scrappy goals. All his goals come from him working space for himself and usually shooting from outside the box, if he can score 20 goals like the ones he has scored he won't be here for very long. We need a striker to be a constant threat in and around the box more often to score those scrappy goals and tap ins. At the moment we relying on McG scoring wonder goals or Cresswells crosses what happens if the team snuff those 2 out or get injured? For me he's a very good player who's got the ability to play at a higher level but he needs a better striker alongside him and also he himself also needs to be a bit more of a threat in the box, as not many players can score that type of goal consistently throughout a season
I'm sure he was described as a Headless Chicken PTC i remember thinking it was a silly comment at the time. As long as goals keep coming i don't care if they are not scrappy.
Whether I said headless chicken or something to that effect, you weren't at that game or you'd have agreed. Think it was actually Ewood Park.
Don't know who it was Hampy and if i remember rightly it was not just 'he played like a Headless Chicken today' but more 'he is a Headless chicken'
Okay with Hampys comment maybe you were right WCP , that's almost like saying Alan Lee was lazy and Counago had tonnes of energy not sure who could think of such silly comments yes true but I just don't think scoring goals like that consistently over a season is realistic (I hope I'm wrong), would just like to see him show a bit more desire to get on the end of things in the penalty box, although his game is built around coming deeper to try and effect the game.
He is certainly proving a few doubters wrong. I'm sure it was also said hes likely to score in patches then be anonymous for a few games. Ability? Undoubtably. Fox in the box? Not really. So we need the poacher to compliment him. 15+ from him will do. He's full of confidence right now and long may it continue.
Does that mean i should start a new thread to let everyone know i was right and slate everyone else...............
Not everyone dished him after 1 iffy away performance, most have been singing his praises since day one.!
Yes completely agree, he (although a different type of player) reminds me of Stead who also always seemed to score good goals, was a superb finisher but only scored in patches and that was for me because he didn't get in the box enough or take up enough dangerous positions, although McG has a better all round game. He is a second striker we need a main man, only problem is I think that sort of player is usually not someone who likes direct passes to, so we'd then have no real outlet if we wanted to go direct upfront. If Nouble was ever to become a good player I think he'd be the ideal partner for Murphy as I think he could play that role as well as a target man, unfortunately that looks like a very long way off currently!!
I know Hoppers i think the majority could tell that he is a good player it was only a few i think that couldn't.
He is the most unnatural natural goalscorer I Have seen By that I mean he doesn't seem interested in being in the penalty area, is never really in the right striker positions but whatever he touches normally goes in. A talented player without doubt but really doesn't convince me as a 'striker' in the true sense of the word.
Lol hoppers. Sadly true. We're not moaning. We know we have a goal scorer in our midst. But as said by ptc he's creating his own goals, looking for the worldy. It's finding our tap in man. The goal hanger. Nouble? Not for the forseeable future. SEB. Maybe. But if that comes off its more than likely temporary as he touts himself.
So hoppers if I watch a new player in one game and he's completely cack should I hail him as the messiah? Or when I'm talking about that game should I say how bloody dreadful he was? It was the worst performance I've seen from an Ipswich player since that o'callaghan oaf got sent off at Watford a few years ago. I also remember nouble coming on and changing the game shortly after that at oakwell. I probably wouldn't have signed McGoldrick on the basis of last season, but then again I wouldn't have sold Jordan Rhodes either I do stand by the fact that nearly everyone on here wanted rid of tommy smith, but I said time and again what a warrior of a centre back he would grow to be with a bit of time and likewise Luke Hyam when he was miles away from contention.
