Report in todays evil post.... Mark McGhee will make signing an experienced midfield enforcer his top priority in the January transfer window. MM is expecting to boost a squad that could be much-changed - depending on what happens to the following players who are currently on loan with us. MM has requested loan extensions to keep Bolton striker Tom Eaves, Stoke City midfielder Matthew Lund and Leicester defender Cian Bolger until the end of the season. MM is still waiting on confirmation from Bolton, Stoke and Leicester on these possible deals. Also the future of goalkeeper Sam Walker, on loan from Chelsea, is still uncertain. Guy Branston is only on loan until the end of the December and will return to Aldershot. Also there has yet been no indication as to whether striker Derek Riordan will be offered an extension to stay at the Mem. Wayne Brown has been offered a neal deal to keep him at the club until the end of the season but he has yet to sign the new deal tabled last month and could become a free agent at the end of December. So depending the above players futures, we may well see a lot of activity in January as MM will be getting replacements in the door. But MM acknowledges it is in midfield where the needs are most urgent. MM said.... Thoughts?
I've searched the pfa list and it all seems to be kids or Salif Diao! Then I searched for decent players not getting a game and there's not alot about! When I looked at the midfielders of the Midlands clubs above us, the only player not getting a game that seemed to fit what we wanted was Neil Danns and he ended up at the sh!t! Will be interesting to see who they get!
According to the evil post.... "Notts County midfielder Gavin Mahon turned down an opportunity to come to the Memorial Stadium for a temporary spell before the loan window closed a fortnight ago". Thats one of the targets in this position.
On the OS MM talks about the upcoming Dag and Red game. In that article it talks about the loan signings we currently have in more detail than was stated above from the evil post, so thought I add it here Mark has been in discussion with the players whose loans are up at the end of the year. “There have been discussions. I spoke Dougie Freedman about Tom Eaves, and Tom is going to train with them at the beginning of next week, so Dougie can meet him. He knows our feelings and he is going to speak to Tom while he is up there and we will take it from there. The rest are more or less the same, we have spoken to people and the players themselves will speak to their clubs.” http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/mark-on-daggers-529569.aspx?pageView=full#anchored
