Here is some of Mcghee's latest comments....

Mcghee said...
"Injuries and suspensions have taken a toll on the squad, so people have to be fair and make a judgement when we have everybody back and available. I'd expect that when we get all our best players back, we have got enough to put together a winning run. We need to do that before we are too many points behind to make an impact on the play-offs. We have to hope that by Christmas, we will have all of the players back out there and that we will have half the games left for us to go on some sort of run. We still have ambitions to get higher up the table and I believe we have players capable of achieving that before it gets too late.

I have to say, the only real reason now that I am still backing him as due to the very bad luck with injuries. Yes he has made some very silly / stupid mistakes that in my opinion has costed us time / money and important points. But every manager makes these mistakes. He is trying different things that are not working and shouldnt work either. But I do believe if he had half of his injured players available we wouldnt be where we are. He makes a good point about judging him when he has a team available to put out to fully compete. Every manager would struggle in McGhee's position. If we got rid now, whoever comes in has the same problem and players may not want to perform as may feel unhappy about McGhee's departure. He needs more time and a chance and our backing in my opinion.

Where do you all stand? Is it time to seek another manager or give him more time and how long would you give him?

<ok>

I will give him until x-mas to improve our situation. He needs a little longer this season because of the injuries we have had. However, he won't be immune from criticism and it is already coming in thick and fast. He needs to pull his finger out that is for sure.

Problem for me is, who do we replace him with? Would it do us any good? How many managers have we had recently? And none of them have been able to stop the slide, or even remotely halt it. I would prefer the board to go myself, but again, is there anyone there who wants to take over?

Personally, I think we are just destined for a stint in the conference....who know's, it may work out for the better in the long run.....of course it could **** us up royally as well <wah> I dunno!

even though im still backing him, i been criticising him a lot lately, especially playing players oit of position. agree totally that he needs to pull his finger out and fast. stop messing with players out of position trying to be clever but stick to basics and demand more from his players.

i agree with the board comment but with the uwe stadium on the cards, cant see the current board going anywhere soon.

who would we replace mcghee with? more like who will want to replace him. our record shows we get rid of managers very quickly and fans turn against managers and players quickly. who wants to put themself in the hot seat where this happens at the foot of league 2?? there will be some but i cant imagine anyone decent.

'who do we replace him with?'

I've said it before....we can cobble together a good enough management team
out of North/Stewart/Walsh/Kite to see us through.
One advantage of MM not bringing in his own crew is that if he goes he
won't take anyone else with him.

shouldnt they be having an impact behind the scenes and assisting MM? are they not also part responsible? (playing devils advocate here <ok>)

Yes...but who picks the team and then picks positions out of a hat?
Walsh is doing an excellent job with the U18s. I think they've
only lost one match.

maybe he gets feedback from them all (again playing devils advocate)
for walsh, its a big step to the 1st team though.
glad he is doing well and the u18's. breeding sucess to give them confidence to progress into the 1st team squad.

Let's be honest...if we all put aside the fact that MM seems to be a decent and nice bloke
he's doing a terrible job.
The only two players who get regular rave reviews (NE and TE) aren't ours and could
be gone in the New Year!<yikes>

But you have to be fair as well Pirate, he has a massive injury list which will slowly start coming back down now. I agree our position is not acceptable, but I also have to say that it would be a little harsh to give him the boot now without seeing what he can do with a fully fit squad... Still if he goes, I wouldn't be particularly upset about it

agree, i have criticised mcghee a lot as you know. chasing constable for 3 months willing to spend £200k and then say actually we dont need a striker was a farce and messed up our pre season as meant it effected signing others late when he eventually gave up on constable. he has made mistakes like all managers do but difference is mcghees mistakes stand out as its so simple and basic that he gets wrong. as i said at the start in the thread, only reason why im still backing him is if he had a full squad to choose from which he hasnt had at all this season then we should see massive improvements and expect to see our form turn into end of last seasons home form. thats what i think and as a result i think he should be given the time to prove his case which is what he is calling for in his quote.
with etheridge and eaves, mcghee signed them. got something right!

Well we certainly can't get rid of him, that would be the umpteenth manager in 18 months.

Yes, he does have a dreadful injury list to contend with, but he's also got a sizeable squad and we should be doing far better with the fit players he has at his disposal.

He must stop playing people out of position, instil some discipline so we don't lose so many to needless suspensions and put a rocket up some of the underperformers. Heads go down too easily and there are too many players he seem unaware of their role on the pitch.
