Former Celtic man McGeady, 32, only joined Sunderland from Preston North End, last summer and still has two years to run on his contract at the Stadium of Light, however with the club relegated to League One last season, the club are to offload a number of their stars.

McGready was one of Sunderland's few good performers in an otherwise dismal season.

The attacker scored seven goals and registered five assists in 35 Championship games last season, including a strike in the 3-3 draw with Bristol City in February.


Johnson has largely opted for young targets which he can develop but an older experienced voice in the changing rooms, especially with Gary O'Neil leaving this summer, would not go amiss.


And with 93 international caps there are few as experienced as McGeady.

One to sell I'd say. Talented but inconsistent and should fetch a half decent fee, probably on relatively good wages too as one of our better players.

He was a cracking signing for the price though, credit to Bain for that. What was it 250K or something like that.

Need to keep him imo. Can't imagine he'll be on that much

Who knows I was just thinking of how we persuaded him to come to us over better, less doomed sides and money was the obvious answer. Maybe nobody else wanted him but it seems unlikely.
