Leeds United boss Brian McDermott is amongst the favourites to take over the vacant managers position at West Bromwich Albion.

Albion have parted company with manager Pepe Mel today after they avoided relegation from the Premier League by just three points.

Whilst former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay is the early favourite to replace Mel, McDermott`s odds have been slashed from 16/1 earlier today and he is now as short as 11/5 to takeover at the Hawthorns.

Would we ever be so lucky to get rid of him without paying compensation

If he is under contract we might actually receive compensation ourselves.

Morning boys and girls. Why would we want to get rid of potentially the best Manager we've had in ages? Yes, last season wasn't great. But there were a lot of mitigating circumstances. This coming season, we'll have got rid of a chunk of the cr*p left by Colin. BMD will have money to spend to uplift the quality of the squad. Byram, Mowatt, Murphy & Co. will be a year older and a lot more experienced.

We might not get autos. We might even get knocked out in the play offs. But at least there'll be no excuses for us not beig able to give it a real go.

I'm not to bothered either way - I like Mcdermott and think he is a decent manager, but fed up of people who think they know everything about football spouting **** about him. He is pretty much ideal for us this year.

You took the words right out of my mouth, LR. Sums up my thoughts concisely. I've never been able to express my feelings without droning on.

Makes little or no difference whether he stays or goes this season anyway as the target is a mid table finish and stabilise the club. Pretty much any manager should be able to guarantee that. What happens in twelve months will likely be far more important

Wonder what the odds are on Tim Sherwood going for the Albion job? They could certainly do worse.

Brian has been shyte since November which is a fact. Maclaren at Derby has transformed them into a prem candidate and Dyche also transformed another average side who had no cash ..... just like us, yet these 2 managers delivered whilst we gave good press conferences and blamed everything else for the problems. Never mind that he brought in players who were shocking besides Smith and maybe Murphy..

I would have loved him to succeed but he's been shocking and has the worst ever record of any Leeds manger. Dyche will get sacked when Burnley look like relegation fodder, so maybe we should pick him up then and stick with him. Sherwood will go to Norwich, Harry gets sacked when Maclaren takes Derby up

    Hi Doc,

Do you really think the 3 situations are comparable?

Nope, he wouldn't. He plays very similar tactics to Brian, and the "he took Cardiff up" argument is redundant - Brian took Reading up, which looking at the resources available to him was more impressive in my opinion. Oh and Malky could have kept Cardiff up if it werent for a nutter chairman you say? Well Brian could have taken us up without a ridiculous set of owners. Do people forget he's worked under Bates & GFH - I think i'd rather work for Maggie Thatcher compared to them too (maybe not).

So why else would he be fantastic for us. His amazing work in the transfer market (Cornelious 9 mil anyone?).
