He had a poor day today! I hope all the hype hasn't gone to his head. Last year he was good but he has to know he isn't the finished article and needs to keep working.
Yes he was very poor, hope all the hype hasnt gone to his head! He was better when he was an unknown.
I agree, Sess was way off the pace. He looked better when he got the ball out wide. I'm sure this is due to lack of proper playing time!
I thought McClean put in a half decent performance today, so can't see why he is getting any criticism..
When McClean gets the ball with his back to goal it shows his limitations, he is much better when running onto it. Liverpool really sussed him today, can't remember a single time where they allowed him the ball facing goal in the first half so his main threat was totally nullified. WHen that is happening to him he needs to learn to retain the ball at least and he wasn't doing that today.
McClean was pants...That said it's not fair to single him out. Cant think of anyone who did well..Jack first half maybe..Catts was solid...Apart from that...One to forget.
I honestly thought Sess wasn't playing for about 30 mins. Liverpool deserved to win they just passed us off the park. Hard earned point at least.
I said last week that it looks like McClean was a bit of a one trick pony and that other teams had sussed him out. Even worse today, he lost the ball over and over again, often in and around half way. I've re watched the game and counted the number of succesful forward passes and crosses that he made.....I think it was 3. That said, the team shape does not help him. We are playing 451, both with or without the ball. That makes it hugely difficult for the wide player to be receiving the ball in the right area. We have Fletcher up front alone and are feeding high balls to him, therefore he is not able to spread the ball from the front into areas that the wide men can run into space and onto the ball. Every time either wide player gets the ball, its coming from the back and into his feet, receiving the ball with no momentum and facing his own goal or at best a square pass from midfield, which again leaves little option but to pass backwards or turn and run. If we are to continue playing this formation, it is vital that we can switch it up to 4 3 3 when we attack, that means better support for Fletcher, as Sess is not doing that, and balls to feet for the front man, which will allow them to spread it wide and bring the outside players into an attacking position. I assure you that Johnson will be absolutely wasted if we can only give him the ball in deep areas, facing his own goal.
What a shower of ****s you lot are apart from MrRAW the lad has just flown half way around the world and you ****s are on his back already he ain't no one trick pony. If he was so **** how come the Liverpool put 2-3 players on him everytime he got the ball. This is what I hate about bring a Sunderland fan negative ****ing arsehole lets slag the team of. You'll all be calling gore MoNs head next week. ****ing ****s. We weren't great but still unbeaten.
I think JC was poor today but so were most of our team. If AJ had been fit today I think MON might have dropped McLean as a punishment for his twitter gaffe in midweek. Lets not get on anybodies backs just yet tho. Its a long season and the nucleus is there of a very good side.
Froggy if you read what was said no one was having a go at him or the team. He didn't play well IMO and I was hoping that the problems with his international twitter issues he wasn't turning into a player who thinks he has now made into the big league. He isn't the finished article and still needs to progress but he is great player and could be even better. Not having a go just want him to keep progressing.
Bang on! Imo he needs to be running on to the ball more in behind. I cringed every time they play the ball to his feet, 90% of the time he loses it. Very frustrating.
Bit of an impact sub for me, has pace and energy but still has a lot to learn. I would play Larsson and Johnson on the wings and bring on McLean later if necessary
It's not a case of getting on anyone's back but it more about how we use the players that we have. We are not playing the system well when we have the ball and that is making our more creative players look bad. Lets hope we start playing better as a team and I'm sure our gems will shine.
Pretty much everyone has failed to say that Kelly had a great game for Liverpool and is a real prospect for the future, nothing wrong with trying your best and coming up against a fine player.
He's a boy from another country playing in the best league in the world. MON will look after him. I would rest him and explain that he needs it. He needs to understand that he's not Ryan Giggs and is still learning his trade. Me, I would drop him if AJ is fit for west ham. Bring him on in the second half as an impact player.
