INJURIES were added to insult for Sunderland at the weekend, with both James McClean and Adam Johnson reporting problems in the wake of their teamâs lacklustre display at Manchester City, writes GRAEME ANDERSON. No long-term damage is expected to Johnson after the England winger was taken ill at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. But McClean could miss out on the Republic of Irelandâs World Cup qualifiers against Germany and the Faroe Islands after suffering a tightening in his groin. The former Derry City winger was due to undergo a scan on his groin today, but what might prove bad news for him if he is ruled out, could prove better for his Sunderland team-mate David Meyler, who was added to the Irish squad on Friday night. A spokesman for the Football Association of Ireland confirmed: âJames McClean reported a very tight groin after his match and will be scanned.â
(Said this on the "other" forum too) I really don't want him injured for the Derby - I want him dropped to give him a wake up call!! It seems to be what he needs as he is not (from the games I've seen) knuckling down and working let alone playing well - on Saturday he shouted for a ball which Fletcher was about to get his head on then missed it completely when Fletcher left it - that moment seemed to me like he wanted Fletcher to head it so he didn't need an excuse for missing!! He was nowhere near ready to take the shot which was ddropping at perfect volley height
Is Adam J still going to join up with the England squad? If the lad's not right he shouldn't go. There's been something up with him ever since he signed for us. Maybe playing for England would get him a bit more match fit but if there's any doubt he should stay home and let our physio's work on getting him fit for us. As for Jimmy Mac: I find myself agreeing with many commentators on here saying he should be left on the bench and used as an impact sub. It'll probably help Jimmy as well.
