i don't think they've got any money so they have little choice but to go for loans. don't rate either player myself but a change of scenery sometimes does a player good. mcgoldrick has done well at coventry this season, albeit in league one but has never scored goals at a higher level on a regular basis while mclean is very hit and miss. beggars can't be choosers though... as you say, we were in the same situation in 2009 ;)

That's as may be - doubtless one of their stalwarts will be on here to clarify soon, but I seem to recall under GR, we were about the 3rd highest in terms of money (wasted) on signing on/agents fees that season.
So is there not a touch of 'false economy' about endless loan signings?

I doubt it for one thing we will not be in League 1 or ever likely to be! Secondly a loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent signing in the summer makes perfect sense. Thirdly given the over inflated prices bandied about in the January window it makes financial sense to wait until the summer.

a little over-confident there warky. you're only 5 points above the drop zone despite an extraordinarily good sequence of results. you've still got a poor side but at least you now have a half-decent manager. mind you, neither of these guys are likely to propel you towards the premier league any time soon.

on a side note, my old man reckons you are interested in signing mark yeates - now he really is dogshite! there were rumours that you wanted jonathan hogg - he's very good, but no - its yeates you want <laugh>

Rumours are that you are after Keith Fahey <laugh> ......... as well as us :emoticon-0120-doh:

But in all seriousness although these signings can be viewed as underwhelming we have signed the League 1 leading goalscorer in red hot form and with a view to making it a permanent signing in the summer. However you re word or repackage that, it's still no bad thing!

I would consider both players to be 'decent' at this level which will be enough to get us safe, also I can't imagine this will be our only business in the transfer window so I'm sure we'll have a stronger squad come the 1st February as well as a few more points of the board and more breathing space with the bottom 3

I can't help but notice that you boys have dropped down the table like a stone if you lose against Newcastle you'll be right in the **** which is a bit of a shame!

    keith fahey? <laugh>

new one on me! first i've heard of it. championship player at best so would make absolutely no sense at all as he wouldn't even make our bench, especially if we land beram kayal.

i think you'll probably scramble to safety this season. don't be fooled though - i really think you'd have gone down had you not appointed mick mccarthy. i still expect you to be in the bottom 6-8 this year and these kind of signings certainly won't make me change my mind on that. these are the type of signings which we ourselves made the year we went down - average, journeymen footballers - and they won't be on small wages either. will be interesting to see how you cope without campbell who did very well for you.

who exactly thinks that? the daily mail??

none of us do. £5m and we may see some action...

as for us 'dropping like a stone' - we've only lost 3 points on the teams in the bottom three during our poor recent run (which featured games against the champions of england and the champions of europe - can't say we were expecting much from those games if we're honest). if we lose to newcastle next week then i think there will be concern because losing five on the bounce isn't good form at all, but we don't have to finish above newcastle unless they finish 18th. you seem to have forgotten that if we finish 17th this season, next year, no matter where we finish, we receive more money than man city did last season for winning the league.

7th to 12th constitutes dropping like a stone, when the table is very congested? OK then walky
we were unlikely to finish 7th so we're now back to a more normal position.
annoys me that people go on about us losing 4 on the spin without mention that 3 of those teams are top 6
lastly we'd hardly be in the **** losing to newcastle, yes a few alarm bells would ring.

People on twitter questioning Mccarthy's continued use of the loan system.
I explained that as long as the words "with a view to a permanent signing" are mumbled, that makes it all right <ok>

See how I stick up for you boys?

A loan signing in January makes perfect sense to me! It's when you bring in 7 loanees at the start of the season! Now that's just ****ing mad! <ok>

Have you borrowed that Crystal Ball?

These signings spell the end of the DJ Campbell dream who I expect will warm the Loftus road bench in January & then maybe join Palace or Bolton. As for Journeymen?

Mclean has been steadily making his way up the leagues and as I said before is a steady player at this level (scored buckets for Posh a couple of seasons back) will be interesting to see how he gets on, he has all the physical attributes but lacks the clinical finish

McGoldrick is a bit of an enigma, he's only 25 and has been highly rated in the past but drifted out of favour at Forest with their recent signings of Cox & Sharp. Again it'll be interesting to see whether a consistent run in the team is all he has been needing as I fancy he has the potential to score a few goals at this level and like I said he's in red hot form and the leading goalscorer in League 1

so I wouldn't consider these two signings anywhere near comparable with the likes of Sibierski, Lita, Clingan and what ever other dross you had brought in the year you went down.
