Hi Guys, Great news on Danny Fox, sounds like a very reasonable fee (1.8m), great strength in depth now down the left hand side both defence and midfield. Possibly Dickson to go out on loan or sold? Been really out of form recently. Anyway, the main point of this post was with all the rumours about Maynard about to sign (of which I'll believe when I see). Are we really happy about signing this player for the reported fee of 4-6 million? Don't get me wrong i'm a big fan of the lad but for that money!? I would be much happier with someone else for a bit less of a fee... Jay Rodriguez for 2-3 mil for example! What does everyone reakon?
according to fourthofficial who has correctly predicted alot of transfers lately, we are still in for maynard
I agree that Maynard seems unlikely but he is continually linked and from some 'apparently' reliable sources. Surely Rodriguez would cost less? Sure it was reported that him and Fox would be 4-5 mil combined so if Fox was 1.8m (both reported firgures I know) then I presume 2-3mil for Rodriguez seems about right. Think your probably right about Rodriguez and Fox being announced at the same time Fran. But yeh he was just an example of the sort of player and figure I would be happier spending
I'm not 100% certain if there is anything behind these Maynard rumours but if it does turn out to be true then I will be delighted, regardless of how much we pay for him. The fact that we are already beginning to build for the Premiership shows how seriously we are looking to take this season.
After the money we got for AOC, I would not mind us going out and spending 5 mill on one player, provided that they are a quality striker (and this is how I would classify both Maynard and Rodriguez).
Hmm yeh I take your point Beany, if we have the money we might as well spend it. Just 5 mil seems an aweful lot. Not sure if Maynard is worth that. However in Cortese we trust to get value for money!
At the moment if you asked me whether I'd be happy with us paying £5m for Maynard I'd say no, but if it happens the moment it's announced I'll be delighted. Same goes for many others, I'm sure. Good old fickle nature of football.
This is part of the flip side of getting 12 million for AOC though - other clubs know this, so players probably won't be as cheap as they might have done before....
I don't know... Fox doesn't seem too pricey at the alleged £1.8m, and he only knew last night so Burnley didn't hike their asking price much at all.
I'm confident about Maynard signing. But I'm in the same boat as Dan here, wouldn't want to pay £5m for him, but will be really happy when he signs.
I really don't see how you can go about saying this so convincingly. With the amount of interest in him and that his price tag is so expensive, it seems a little unlikely. However, if we did end up signing Maynard, you will have a massive egg on your face. I don't know why people say things as if they are fact.
£5m I'd tolerate. TBH, unless Bristol City or any press get hold of any details, I doubt we'll know how much it is. All the deals we do nowadays are undisclosed.
Maybe it balances out as clubs know that our chairman will not pay over the odds for players? 1.8m for Fox does seem very good value if true
i dont think the money side of the AOC deal will have any impact on prices for us. People know that we have the Liebherr monies behind us, but also know we have ahard nosed chairman in NC. The prices are being pushed up by the likes of leicester and Sven. If noone agrees to pay stupid money, then noone asks stupid money. as soon as a manager pays ridiculous fees, then everyone expects them.
One thing is for sure and that is that Cortese will not spend money on players if we cannot afford it. If Maynard signs I would be delighted as well as safe in the knowledge that we would still be sound financially.
