Word is that Nicky Maynard has turned down a contract at bristol City and will be sold off cheap in January as he only has 6 months left. Prices being quoted at around the 2 Million mark, Surely if Jewell is thinking about Sharp again at 3 million its worth a poke at Bristol to see if the deal is there and if he would be interested?
my fair question to you guru is, why on earth would he leave one championship struggler for another? same goes for sharp to be honest! both want to play in the top flight...
Fair point supers, But if the right people at Portman Rd sold the club to him and the commitment the club had to make the prem it wouldn't be that crazy. But then again we have Cleggy so as they say, "We be ****ed". You forget both players may want to play in the prem but its up to the clubs to take the chance. My own feeling is that he will finish up at Wigan or Southampton
you've trampled all over your suggestion there guru!! maynard will certainly be on lambert's radar. he heaped praise on him last season before our game at carrow road and he fits the bill, his sort of player. qpr, swansea, villa, everton, sunderland, wigan, west brom, wolves, bolton... all these clubs will be looking at players like sharp and certainly maynard who is the better player in my opinion. only west ham, leicester and southampton are likely to be able to compete
Not trampled, Its always worth to give it ago you never know what will happen, If you don't try you don't succeed.
perfectly good philosophy to abide by! however, i'm not sure the people running your club believe in that philosophy at the moment. aren't you struggling to keep andrews who wants to stay?
Are you suggesting we start our operation premiership campaign again so we can entice quality to the club? last time we tried that we ended up with Leadbitter and Edwards amongst others!!! I think we should hunt around for some exciting young talent. I see we have been linked with a couple of unusual names. A couple of the Irish league youngsters have been mentioned and if we can uncover the next Doyle/ Long etc it could be a better gamble
so Maynard isn't young? I believe he is the best sort of quality we could attract and that is pushing it. Imagine a partnership of Maynard and Chops together, it would give any defence sleepness nights!
Maynard is young but we have signed the 'best' available players since ME's takeover and look where signing proven talent has got us. Do I rate him? Yes. Can I see him coming here? - No. Do I think with a bit of scouting rather than going for the 'name' we may actually get somewhere? Yes? He may well fit in if we did pull of this signing but with our record I would like us to try the potential rather than the obvious
Fair call tractorbhoy, like i have said its all pie in the sky with this one, i believe we would be a long way down the list but no harm in trying. Totally agree that we need to scout out the hidden gems, young hungry players is what is needed to get out of this division with a bit of experience fitted in steady the ship now and again.
Careful with the wine gums JWM, I remember a few years ago on a Boxing Day fixture when Fulham just scraped past you 10 - 1! Wasn't that put down to too much Christmas spirit? hic
obviously a long time before my time, but the 10-1 at fulham happened on a record breaking day for goals in 1963... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/co...urday-Goals-galore-on-bizarre-Boxing-Day.html we've seen a few score lines like that this season!
Funny thing is, I only remember the Fulham - Ipswich score! 1963 - I was 15 years old, and had just become a virgin for the second time!
Maynard won't be coming I'm friends with his girlfriend. She is at Bristol college, and told Nicky in the past week she's happy to quit her course for a new start. Therefore, he'll want to go somewhere with a good signing on fee. Won't be us.
