Now that Nicky has clarified he wishes to stay with Bristol City but also looks like he may run his contract down do you feel the missing part of the jigsaw is a 20 goal a season striker for the mighty foxes :emoticon :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Do you think you will steam roll the division as many on here think or will the team take time to gel.

    Honest opinions please -

Soi your are happy with this?

Lets see how your ****ty defence holds up this season.

Just think, you could have started with Pittman and Stead (you said both of these are more than capable) and spent 6m on a class defence.

Had you done so I would think you might have made the play offs.

    <ok>

Well done Bristol, you have shot yourselves in the foot as he will leave on a free next summer or for 1/2m in January <ok>

Dont think we'll walk the league and never have. I think most sensible City fans think we have a great chance with a very strong squad BUT we all recognise that we require reliable firepower up front. There will be planty of bravado about how good we are but in reality we all know it's a tough league and West Ham are favourites with a decent manager and a strong squad (they have managed to retain players that we all thought would have left by now). City WILL take time to gel and I expect that to be 5/6 games. We all know that we require a proiven striker and that has actually been Sven's main aim since the close of season BUT it's hard work getting goalscorers and a fair rate.

I think were def missing a quality striker, and i firmly believe its taking alot more sorting out, than sven and co, 1st thought it would. I think the bulk of our team is pretty good, and believe were very solid in def and midfield. However i feel we will def struggle in the goal scoring dept without significant additions upfront. I would have love to have got Maynard, but it wont happen, likewise, Shane long, and i think were getting to the stage with it now, where were gonna start clutching at straws, and could end up with any old tat. Firepower may well be a major prob this season if the situation is not addressed quickly, but i for one bear no malice to Maynard or bcfc, or anybody else that dosn't want to come and play for us, that is purely their choice, and indeed their right.

On another not, my Barnsley mate has just txt me to say he feels like a kid on christmas eve, and cant waith for tommorrow. And i have to say, i know exactly how he feels lol..................................c'mon

ooh p.s lets hope we dont regret pulling out of the CMS deal...

The above post sums up my opinion. All LCFC fans are very eager to kick star tthe season off. It has to be the first season in a long time where there is a real anticpation about the place. The words from the chairman and his fiscal support have given the club a real buzz. That can spill over into arrogance at times - but when all i said and done I think we all view this season as being tough. And yes ideally we would love to gain a 20+ goalscoring machine.

I do half agree with shooting yourself in the foot if NM doesnt sign a contract though. Good luck next season!

So, Leicester think they are all high and mighty and recall reading somewhere "What Sven wants, Sven gets" Couldnt be further from the truth in this case.

So how does it feel, not to be the big cheese you thought you were?

How does it feel, not being able to prize away a injury prone striker, who is in his last year at City?

    Cant be a nice feeling........

No still feels like we have a strong squad capable of challenging for promotion which is a massive improvement on last year. One player will never make our team. We failed to get Maynard just as the others did, but remember that the failure was down to your chairman (at correctly so) not wanting to sell his prized asset. Had the bid been accepted then i guarantee NM would have jumped ship. It will now be interesting to see if a contract is signed and if it is then what clauses have been included.

Sven learnt from last season and has improved our squad to match. I hope your manager has learnt from your defensive frailties from last season and improved your squad to match....

All were being is realistic i think, yes like all teams we have the odd idiot fan, and your club is no exception by the way, but most genuine lcfc fans know only too well, it will be a long hard season, we will win games we dont deserve to, and lose games we should have won by a mile, but its all part and parcel of football.
this was shaping up to be one of the more sensible threads on here, utill yet again, you pop up with some assinine comment that has no bearing on what was being discussed, as ive said before, i have no prob with Maynard or bcfc, i will tho poss make an exception in your case, cos there is just no need for it!!!!!

    Disagree STRONGLY

There is need of it, when your glory hunter fans post on our board saying how big, how great, how rich, how they are gonna storm the league etc etc.

Let us have a bit of glory, after all, its probably the only bit of good news we are going to get!

Anyone can WUM away though and to some degree the statement 'who ever Sven wants, Sven gets' has an element of truth to it - because up until Maynard he has got every player he wanted :)

But Good Luck for next season and i shall see you falling down Park street no matter the score at your place!

Park Street is without doubt the best place to drink in Bristol.

Avoid the waterfront at all costs, unless you want to be surrounded by Chavs that think they are superman after a few alchopops!!!

I would be happy to meet for a cider or 2 in the Ram :)

To be honest, it is a free forum so people can say what they like; it's just a website.

The best way is to simple ignore the comments completely and they will soon stop.

We have very few glory hunters at Leicester.....I can assure you that having attended since 80/81 and spending hard earned money to watch us play has very little glory in it.....

Sven wanted Maynard, Bristol didnt want to sell Maynard. it also proves we are not going to be pushed around in regards to transfer fees.

Maynard showed no willing to move, and Sven has only bought in players that want to play for Leicester. If he wanted to play for Leicester, he would have made that clear and he would have been sold, but credit to the lad, he owes you for how long hes been on the physio table, and will see out his contract with you.

I don't think it will hurt us too much, no doubt theres going to be a LONG time before we see our 20+ a season striker, but what we have atm is more than capable of winning games.

Personally, i do not think you need a 20+ goal scorer.

Leicester have an abundance of quality in other areas and goals can come from all avenues.

A 20+ goal scorer is generally only as good as the quality behind him.

I can only say he´s scared to fail at a bigger club.

    1. He wants to stay at BCFC yet won´t sign a new contract.
    2. Will leave on a free so BCFC miss out on cash & he´ll end up signing for another average npower team as he´s afraid of the premiershp.
    3. Does´nt seem to want to play for LCFC or WHU.
    4. I guess it´s his choice.

    END OF FOR ME.............NEXT

You may have a good point there, but to see a name like Maynard on the team sheet looks good plus it opens more avenues.

Agree with this, we are not top 2 contenders without the right striker IMO. I'm hopeful Sven will get Long in, if he can carry on his form from last season I'll be confident.

I'll take 2nd to West Ham no probs, I'll even take scraping 6th and winning the play-offs, though of course I can't choose where we finish! As long as we go up I don't care how we do it (unless it involves cheating).

People have wanted us to fail since the end of last season before any of our fans had said a thing, and we will have to deal with that. As long as we don't give them what they want I think we can hold our heads high - I think we could have shown much more arrogance than we have done (take Forest fans for the last 30 years for example).

I have no complaints about Bristol for not letting us have Maynard, we pissed about and simply didn't offer what was required. Considering we shelled out £5m for a defender they would have been stupid to accept less than that for a highly rated striker. It's only our fault we haven't got him.
