It seems Leeds had a million pound offer turned down for Maynard by wham. They have bought varny from Pompey. Andy Gray has also arrived. Two decent strikers. I said warnock will turn Leeds around, the rebuilding has started. I reckon they could be a dark horse this year.
Got to be honest teams are going to buy other players. We have got realise that we are losing 11 million a year. Only way to stop that is by what we are doing going for out of contract players who sign for realistic wages. The only thing about this means to me is they won't try and buy Stead now
I bet your neighbours hate buying anything new! I bet as soon as you see the delivery lorry you're down Ikea within the hour matching their new sofa for a better one
Leeds are a far bigger club with a far larger support, a super stadium, a vintage history of success in an area which is one of the worlds great hotbeds for football. Our local competition is Rovers and Cardiff, theirs is Man Utd and City, Liverpool and Everton. We cant even try to compete with Leeds, but that wont necessarily stop us emulating Norwich, Ipswich and Southampton. Perspective
While that is true to my knowledge a lot of that loss was down to our failed attempts to land the stadium. It's still a horrendous loss to be making, but the simple fact is that we're not going to get promoted without either money or a top academy. It's simply not going to happen unless McInnes can pull something out of thin air.
If 5 million was invested in the youth academy to ramp up the standards, it could possibly be recouped with just 1 sale. For the rest, we would have a young team to take us there sometime in 2018. Continental brains, top facilities, respected reputation and a scouting network that reaches across Europe. Well, Ok, maybe 8 million but I'd rather see it spent there than on a couple of 'name' players and a vain hope of Premiership football. SL could afford it, and he would see a positive return on his money before the new stadium was ready. We need a revolution to kick start our evolution
Arguably 2 of our best recent buys have been from the "lower leagues" - Maynard from Crewe and Adomah from Barnet Technically Marvin Elliott as well because Millwall were in League 1 back then. We need a mixture of proven experienced Championship players, young hungry guys on their way up and a youth system that produces more first team players than ours has in the last 5 years
As a player Maynard was a good signing, however financially for the club he was an horrendous piece of business, he cost £2.25M and a sell on clause, and we sold him for £1.6M in January after turning down bids ranging from £5-6M only a few months earlier. Part of the reason we are in such a financial mess.
Virtually all players are negative financial signings for a club unless they personally are involved in helping a club get promoted or stopping them getting relegated. Maynard's possible sale for 6million may as well have been 100 million - if he doesn'ty want to go to the bidding club, there was nothing City could do about it. He had a contract and that allowed him to veto any possible transfer. I don't think you can blame the club for this. We held on as long as we could and ultimately did the risght thing by moving him on on transfer deadline day. Players have all the power since Bosman. Clubs have very little.
It says Warnock has not spoken to him directly, but did not rule out people from Leeds speaking about him or with him.
"We've not even considered making an offer for him. We've just been asking people what the availability of that type of player is" Pointless...
