Seems we have a slight player shortage this weekend, so maybe it's a chance to see someone like Lenihan or Johan Ter Horst, or out of the blue Will Annan (hat trick for the reserves/juniors the other day). Is this a possibility? Can't see Brucey wanting to field six subs, thinking about it I'd expect Harry Maguire to be around the bench on Saturday, but who knows?
Ahh fair enough! I hadn't heard about that, just don't think we can afford to have three CBs on the bench for such a critical game; so maybe it's time for a youngster to step up.
I doubt Maguire would be on the bench not with Chester, Davies, McShane and Bruce already above him in that position. I think even with the 3 people out for Saturday that we still have enough senior team members to fill the bench up. I dont see us calling up a youngster for these 3 games not with how important they will be.
About Maguire, why did we sign him ? Especially at £3m. A development player at £3m ? How is he going to develop anyway ? I feel sorry for the lad.
You're right, but it might be worth "stacking the deck" as it were. Someone like Ter Horst might be worth a gamble, if he's not on loan with Jahaldro Martin somewhere, let's have a bit of unpredictability.
I like the idea of bringing the youngsters up. If it was me I would make sure there were youngsters on the bench or starting in the every game in the cup competitions. Then games that we will most likely lose such as Man City, Chelsea games I would try to provide a spot on the bench for the best performing youngster that week. Something like that anyway. Games like our next few I would be hard pressed to put them into the squad or bench. If there is a youngster we have that is good enough to feature on the bench once in a while they probably should be out on loan in the Championship or SPL or somewhere like that.
