Folk singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot died at a Toronto hospital on Monday at the age of 84, his representative has said. His cause of death has not been released. The Canadian musician became famous in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like 'Early Morning Rain' and 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,' which told a tale of Canadian identity that was exported worldwide. Considered one of the most renowned voices to emerge from Toronto's Yorkville folk club scene in the 1960s, Lightfoot went on to record 20 studio albums and pen hundreds of songs, including 'Carefree Highway' and 'Sundown.'
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is in my all time Top 20. Will mean a lot to many of those of us who have known someone who perished at sea. Does any one know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? RIP Gordon Lightfoot
Michael Palin announces his beloved wife Helen has died... just weeks after the childhood sweethearts marked their 57th wedding anniversary RIP
I emigrated to Canada in1963 just at the time when Gordie Lightfoot was starting his career in the clubs in Toronto. Songs such as "In the Early Morning Rain" caused me to shed. many a tear in my loneliness in those years. He was planning a farewell tour in the next few months in the US and I was looking forward to buying tickets to see him one last time. Sadly death has taken this great Canadian icon from us today at the age of 84 (same age as me). But I will be playing his songs till I die. Truly one of the all time greats. Thanks for all the memories and the beautiful music Gordie. May you Rest In Peace for all Eternity !!!

Singer-songwriter Linda Lewis, whose career spanned more than four decades, has died at the age of 72. Known for a five-octave vocal range and ability to perform a wide array of genres, she enjoyed solo success in the 1970s with hits 'It's In His Kiss' and 'Rock-a-Doodle-Doo'. Lewis also provided backing vocals for artists such as David Bowie, Rod Stewart and Cat Stevens.
RIP Linda Lewis.... I was at that Knebworth gig.....From memory the line up was: Linda Lewis, Roy Harper, Captain Beefheart, Steve Miller Band, Pink Floyd. I think Linda married a guitarist who might have been in her back up band, but don't know for sure. Seem to think he also played in Faces with Rod Stewart. Jim somebody or other. Im sure the late great John Peel was compere and read out the full time football scores.
RIP the Bridlington whale An actual fin whale that's been beached, rather than a high roller gambler or an obese woman.
