On Player now, Mauricio gives an interview in English. Okay, he's no Stephen Fry, but perfectly clear and fluent. Saying there has been no time for a holiday as there is so much to do. He isn't bothered too much about the fixture list as he says you have to play everybody anyway.
Knew someone would pick up on that, but basically, as we all know, there is only one language..it's just that foreigners insist on translating it into their own speech.
I don't understand all of this 'he doesn't speak English' nonsense. I thought it was common knowledge that he spoke English from the word go, he just wasn't comfortable speaking English in front of the media?!
He could always speak English. He just didn't have the confidence to do it publicly. He spoke English in an interview at that awards dinner.
He didn't speak English fluently ... the players are even on record the assistant had to get a few things across. I would say he spoke limited english when he first came.
Yeah he spoke some limited English when he came. Seemed logical for him to really learn the language during the summer with his tutor. Cannot watch until Thursday, so what is his English like now?
Speaks without many pauses. Quite easy to understand. I suspect he finds it difficult to follow media questions which can become quite convoluted.
Better than my Spanish thats for sure. I'm impressed considering the short time scale he's had, and really the press and opposition fans seem to have made more of an issue than it really was.
When he arrived he spoke English in the same sense that I speak Spanish. Dos cervecas por favor. Er, donde este el estacion tren?
Sounds like his lessons have been going well. The interviews and press conferences were always a bit of a joke through the interpreter.
Going off on a slightly different tangent, to those of you that have Saints Player, is it worth it? I've never felt the need to cough up for it before, but I'm feeling tempted.
Definitely...not much dearer than a meal out. I like to look through the archive videos. Also, the meaning is often clearer when you hear someone speak than if you read the words. In Mauricio's case, it's often clearer because you can see him laugh when someone asks if we are going to be in the Champions League in two years.
