Nothing new for Saints fans particularly, but may end some of the endless questions and insults that seem to get hurled at Mauricio for not speaking English in interviews.

Also, I get the feeling Simon Peach is fed up of explaining the scenario, this article is the first to really go on record to say what it does, I believe.

Anyone on here still irked by Spanish answers? How often do you end up explaining the scenario?

Countless times I've had people go "your manager doesn't even speak English!", I take a deep breath, and take out my script... definitely the worst part of him not speaking it. Having to explain it to idiots who cannot use logic to work out that the Saints squad and staff have not all learned Spanish especially for Pochettino.

The main reason I'd like to hear him speaking English is that I'd like to hear what he has to say before it gets inevitably filtered and mutated by the translations, which can never 100% convey what he's trying to say.

That's a fair point. There have been a few occasions where more specific answers just get filtered down to a basic overall summary comment of what he is saying. Which kind of defeats the point of Pochettino saying it in the first place.

Just asking...........why do you feel the need to repeat it to people? These are the same people who will repeat over and over again 'money talks' when you try and explain why a Saints player is not going to leave.

Just don't bother and let them think what they want.............and then get beaten.............and then get proved wrong. Patience is hard but Saints fans will be the ones laughing eventually and its pointless to try and debate with other teams fans because they just don't get it.

Yep, that's true but then we'd never get those little nuggets where he places his hand on David's arm and says... disappointed, not frustrated..! :)

Those moments are like little jewels.

I just say "can you imagine how good we'd be if he could talk to the players?" and leave it at that.

We had another incident in his latest interview where he answered in English and David translated into English...he got it right too :) Reminded me of the incident a while ago where he answered in English and David (without thinking) translated it into Spanish...before the 2 naughty boys dissolved into laughter.

Just read the bit in the article where MP says he can't stop interest in Shaw but he is not a player we are willing to sell...then just below it a picture of Shaw with the tag that says we will find it hard to hold on to him. The two statements are not mutually exclusive, but what does Mauricio have to say to get the point over (bearing in mind that Luke has said he doesn't want to go!).

Would be best if we all learned to speak Spanish!

The only thing I find to be a bit irritating is, when I watch Poch's pre-match pressers, I have to listen to David (no disrespect) talking twice as much as the person I actually logged on to listen to!

English is a language with a vast vocabulary, so once you throw in idioms, slang, puns etc it is a minefield. He say he has no trouble on the pitch, but struggles outside, which suggests that his football vocabulary, including slang words, is good, but of little use when you ask for directions in the street. 'Where's the Town Hall, Gov? A Prowsie free kick that way, followed by a nice Luke Shaw cross, a Rickie header and you are there.'

Bit of a joke really, he is a manager in the English Premier League. Therefore he should be speaking English. The interpretations take about 4X longer to get an answer and are really boring to listen to.

In a year or two, he will practically be the manager of England :)

Yes, but he continues in Spanish for his own very good reasons. Not least that the English press can't push him into a corner on a particular point. I think our boredom comes a little way down the scale of importance.

You can call it Poch and Cortese's way of not listening to the fans, if you like. :)

If he feels more confident/comfortable then we should all respect that. Look at the times Mancini was misunderstood or misrepresented.

It would be nice to hear his expression. Also on MOTD his interviews are cut short due to it taking longer to say stuff. Other than that I don't care.... as long as he keeps winning games.

I think Fran is correct. Even different versions of English can leave you looking a bit silly when talking to someone from a different area. They way people twist words to satisfy their own view it gives MP that bit of buffer from that.

As Poch suggests might be possible, I'd like to see him start trying to answer simpler questions (questions like "Are you pleased with that result?") in English when he can (perhaps checking with the interpreter if he's unsure of a word or phrase), and maybe switch back to Spanish for more complex answers.
