Matty's two goals got him into the Championship team of the week, it's a shame that's all they got him. http://www.football-league.co.uk/staticFiles/ee/94/0,,10794~169198,00.pdf Steve Mildenhall (Millwall) Cole Skuse (Bristol City) Liam Fontaine (Bristol City) Adrian Mariappa (Watford) Andrew Taylor (Cardiff) Albert Adomah (Bristol City) Liam Bridcutt (Brighton) Kevin Nolan (West Ham) Jobi McAnuff (Reading) Matty Fryatt (Hull City) Jay Rodriguez (Burnley)
Buts his doubters to silence. 7 goals for the season only needs 2 more to equal last seasons, in half the time.
To be fair, Fryatt only started 5 games for Leicester last season, scoring 2 goals. So essentially, he's scored just as many this season for us as he did last season for us.
Good to see Matty is starting to knock them in, I think NB has had a positive affect on him, this is a positive from the new management style. As far as the defeat Saturday, this team has seldom had the position whereby they have had a 2 goal cushion to defend with 15 minutes to go, normally they had a one goal margin to protect. I think having a 2 goal cushion they just relaxed thinking it was enough, and got caught out. Hopefully they will not make that mistake again.
There was more attacking intent on Saturday, so no surprise he found himself smashing a couple home. With that though comes more openness throughout the rest of the team, most evident in the first 10-15 mins and the last 12 mins. Could have easily been three-down at the start, then took the initiative before again opening ourselves up with those three conceded at the end. Hard to find that balance.
Good. Some gobsh*te in my local said at the start of the season that he wasn't a natural goal scorer and wouldn't get 15 goals. Bet him £20 he would. My bet was looking a bit sick about a month ago but Matty now half way there to me getting my winnings.
The whole thing about how many goals a striker scores is a bit flawed IMO. He's pretty much proven he isn't a natural finisher over the last 6 months so in that respect the gobshite is right. He's had a million chances this season and missed nearly all of them. The reason he's scored a few is because as our main striker he plays most games, and he gets into some good positions so the law of averages says he will score a few eventually. It's impossible to say who is a 'natural goal scorer' and who isn't. All I know he's hitting form at the moment and long may it last. Did Rodriguez get in that team just for his injury time performance? What were all the other strikers in the league doing?
Is it me or does Fryatt look a different player under Barmby? I thought he looked the real deal against Burnley, shame the overall result took the gloss off his brace. He was busting a gut to get that third too! Very encouraged, keep it up Matty.....maybe keep the 'tache into December!
Defo needs to keep the tache. A few times on Saturday he had a sudden burst of pace that we haven't seen before.
Doesn't matter if he plays in the majority of the games, if he wasn't a goal scorer and up to it at this level he wouldn't score goals. Suarez has played almost very game this season for Liverpool but has only bagged three or so goals as I understand - is he not a natural finisher either? Missed a few one on ones earlier on in the season (Blackpool at home) - even the great Ken Wagstaff had his off days. From what I witnessed at Derby and again on Saturday MF has got his confidence back under NB. The guy will do for me.
He'll certainly do for me, especially in the form he is in right now. But that doesn't erase the memory of the ridiculous chances he missed earlier in the season. At one point he was getting a 1-on-1 every game, and each time running all the way up to the keeper without ever actually shooting. I only said Fryatt isn't a natural finisher because he's missed a **** load of chances for us and over the last year his chance conversion rate has been very poor. He's had some patches of good form, but he does have a tendency to go off the boil a bit as well.
On Suarez for any striker thats cost over 20M in the PL he has the worst shots to goals ratio.... I don't get the big fuss over him hasn't set the PL on fire IMO.
I do agree, MF has had spells when the goals have flowed and then his form has dipped - he was the same at Leicester. Hopefully NB can get the best out of him to become a consistent performer. On the Suarez topic, scousers think he's better than Torres was in his pomp - talk about sour grapes.
It puts a lot of those people on this board that have slated Matty as not being good enough. He is. He hit a rough patch, all strikers do. He is our main threat, by far. teams fear him, I've always supported this lad he's quality.
