Just putting it out there seeing as the odds on him joining Norwich have dropped dramatically. Good player, has his demons off the pitch, but can't see any truth in this. Wages would be way too high for us. Probably bookies (or himself ) attempting to get the market moving!
I would say no chance. Must be on decent money and Stoke are more established then ourselves. Very useful player though, gets quality balls in to the box at every opportunity and works hard for the team. Don't see much mileage in it but you never know. Has he been unhappy at Stoke?
he is from this part of the world, maybe that would play a factor, but as you say, can't see any truth in this at all - probably shouldn't have posted it!
Nothing wrong with the post plenty of stranger things have happened, maybe CH is a fan, plus we may need an additional winger depending on how we play to provide extra competition
Would offer us a slight variation on what we currently have, and would work well with our current strikers. I think we should be looking at bringing in another winger if we can, not a main priority but would be useful. An experienced player may well be beneficial
one thing is for sure, its almost impossible to predict which players will be targeted under hughton. it was quite easy under lambert as there were only a handful of players below the premier league who were stand out players! now anyone could be a target...
It certainly seems we will have some additions from abroad. If this is a good thing we will have to wait and see. Personally I would welcome a few from abroad but would still like to see a majority of British players but maybe thats just me
I wouldn't mind him joining but I can't see it happening for 1. Regular at stoke and 2. Must be on wages we can't afford... Maybe we offer him coral vouchers or something like that instead
I'd rather Matt Jarvis personally if going for an established winger but wouldn't turn my nose up at Etherington. Can't see it happening though - off pitch problems and wages.
Would love to have Jarvis, may come with a large price tag now though, not sure what his wages are like but most players seem high compared to our budget.
Sorry Supers but he is from Cornwall. Born at Treliske Hospital. I used to play against his old man who played for St Day which is between Redruth and Truro.
He definitely went to school with my missus (she says it every time he's on MotD ), but I had no idea he wasn't originally from there, however I will of course bow to your greater knowledge old boy as you sound more clued up about it that I. The missus always reckons he wasn't even any good at football at school - if he only moved to the 'boro to play for Posh (and make his debut at 15 apparently - thanks Wiki ) then that shows how much she knew about the game back then!! Good player that i've always rated, but too much baggage, too injury prone and not value for money if you ask me so no thanks.
His old man was a good player but you could stand off him and wait for him to disappear up his own jacksy sometimes. Matthew went up to Posh land at 14 so he would have gone to school there at that age so your missus is correct. His gambling failures are well documented of course and was the reason he left WHU for Stoke. He needed the money to pay off debts and I'm led to believe, to keep his legs. An excellent crosser of the ball and would have suited us and probably still could but at 31 this year we would be in the same area as the Holt debacle.
right, well i've actually played against him at school level and he is from peterborough (or that area anyway) - its irrelevant where his old man is from! he went to school in east anglia was the point i was making, therefore he has a connection. he was bloody good against us by the way - we were about 14 and he hit a double hattrick i remember a few of our team were asking about him and we all made a note of the name! bit like when we played against joe cole... that game didn't go too well either
He has a connection to peterborough not sure what that has to do with Norwich its not exactly that closeby. (I grew up there in Werrington) also I suggested someone might stay even if offered more money to leave if they were settled or had a connection here and I'm "not living in the real world" not sure you can have it all ways there?
