Matt Taylor has signed for West Ham from Bolton in a £2 Million deal to play alongside Kevin Nolan. Why didn't we at least put a bid in for him as £2 Million would have been a snip for someone of his quality. Excellent deadball skills and passing range he would have been what we so desperately need in our midfield. No worries though as we keep scouring the bargain basement for freebies and lower league nobodies the better players are being snapped up by clubs with ambition! If we want promotion (which I'm beginning to suspect that the owner doesn't) he is the sort of player we should be buying is he not?
What possible reason would the owner not want to gain promotion, i'm glad that we don't just 'do a Sven' and just buy as many rated players as we can afford then try and fit them into a team, i think though that we desperately need a strong decisive centre half.
Crimson The point I'm making is that another proven quality player has gone to a rival club for just £2 Million! We supposedly have some cash to spend or is that just another spin story coming out of the club!
Understood my hairy friend but maybe PJ didn't want him or feels that he needs to strengthen elsewhere first, we can't bemoan every transfer that another team makes as one that we missed, i think centre midfield is the one place we don't need much more maybe a little creativity but should get that from wide men. I'd like to see a BIG signing at centre half before anywhere else.
Not sure we could afford his wages JWM. Sorry, what I meant to say was what we would have to pay him would make others in our squad say 'if he's on that much then I want that too'. West Ham have parachute payments that we don't and as such probably have a different wage structure for the next couple of years. So long as they don't give out high wage long term contracts then they can afford to pay top wages for the next couple of years. We are not in this position and can only pay our going rate and try to keep the equilibrium with our other players.
Really rate Matty Taylor, but feel that he, like Nolan, would only have joined West Ham. Sam Allardyce has a good relationship with both, and they obviously both like each other. I don't think we'd have got anywhere if we bid for him.
