38 minutes for Fulham and that stops him signing for us

Are we unable to extend the loan?

Sorry - I don't know the rules - it would seem simple!

No we could only have him as an emergency loan, which runs out Saturday. If he don't get into Fulhams squad now his season is technically over.

What a waste. They don't even like him.

I think he may get a chance! at Fulham, its whether he takes it or not?

In a few minutes of pitch time Matt Smiths career could go either way now, luck and skill together will determine his immediate future.

Do we think he is Championship standard? Yes he has scored a lot for us, but can he do it one level higher, clearly Fulham and Leeds do not think so, is he another Sam Baldock, and even Nicky Maynard in that very good in L1 but not so,good when moving up. I saw the West Ham game and was shocked at his severe lack of pace, he looked like he was running through treacle, just being good in the air probably won't cut it in the Championship where the defenders are generally of a better standard and can often snuff out a striker with only one threat. Just a thought, maybe for what will be anything from £700k to £1Mill, could we do better business?

I would be cautious about having Smith in the Championship if we go up. IMHO it's great having a target man, but it makes us a bit one dimensional as a team, we will need to be a lot more creative than that to survive and flourish there

IF we go up and IF we still play our 3-5-2 formation I'd rather see two fast, strong pacey strikers up front. Similar to Dicko and Afobe at Wolves.

One things for sure in the championship you HAVE to have championship quality players or you will be relegated. The league is so unbelievably fierce that if you have below par players you will struggle.

I hope Cotterill keeps his cool better, particularly post match.
His suspect temperament might be his undoing with players and fans.
Sincerely hope not, but because of his temperament, fans from many different clubs are forecasting him to fall.

Which clubs would that be ?
Seems to be some negativity here towards Cotterill which to me is cr_p.
What is he guilty of, apart from turning our nailed-on sojourn to Div 2 into a lightening return to a decent level of football ?
Oh, so he proves he cares about our club our players our supporters !
    Jeez, what a loser

Cotterill has built a team by buying some of the best in League one. As you go up the Leagues pace becomes more critical and the likes of Smith and Flint will be exposed in the Championship. We have 5 or 6 players who could make the jump but I guess we all know that. If we get promoted there will be new faces and some departures. It is the standard of the newcomers which will decide our progress. Meanwhile I just hope there is something to come from the Academy.

Rickster, can't anyone quote from other fans forum without another sermon from you.
Cotterill's doing a fantastic job at City.
All I'm hoping is his suspect temperament doesn't bring us all crashing to Earth next season.
The Lord knows we've seen enough false dawns.

I feel the same as many on here. He has been one of our best ever loan signings.

But for next season? I suspect we will need strikers with more pace to unlock Chsmpionship defences.
Maybe take a punt on him as a Plan B using his aerial strength.
    But at £800,000? Maybe not?

Yes, I agree. He will always get an excellent reception though from us, who ever he is playing for
