Sad news on Matt Lecointe right knee. After three operations on his knee he has been advised to retire from football. At the age of just 21 that is a heartbreaking decision.....Matt was a promising striker and broke into the first team at a young age.......he injured his knee in a pre-season friendly against Truro. He is hoping to stay in football and train possibly as a physio.....we can only wish him the best in his future career. Although he isn't on PAFC's books anymore it would be nice if they could arrange a testimonial match for him.
Yes, very sad news-you've got to feel for someone who 'almost' made it into the professional game only for his dreams to be snatched away. Lets hope he kept his education up and can qualify as a physio.
Shame. I suspect though that the world is littered with such sad tails and of those that never quite made it in the end. I doubt you would get much of an opposition or crowd for any testimonial game plym despite me understanding the sentiment.
Just saw this on Twitter, very sad but has looked inevitable for a while. Two of my friends (and ex team-mates at schoolboy level) were apprentices at a top club way back when. One found he couldn't stick living football 24/7 and chucked it in despite being offered a contract, the other desperately wanted it but did his knee and had to drop out out of football after an attempted come-back in the league we're in now. That's life...
There's a lot to be said for being a good tiddly wink champion......you've just got to look after your fingers.....easier training and recovery time. It's a great gift to have a injury free body.....some go on forever.....some are just fighting against the luck of the draw about being gifted a physical troubled body........the fickled finger of fate.....comes to mind.
You just reminded me of somebody who had to drop out of football and joined the Navy notdistant. I can't remember his name now but he was a player for Newcastle who also had a bad knee problem and had to drop out of professional football. He was a decent player when I knew him although you wouldn't have suspected his background. This was at Dartmouth College. He got a phone call one day in the Office from a bloke called Bobby Moncur who the older ones amongst us would probably remember. I thought he was taking the proverbial when he said he was coming down and would watch us play. I actually doubted him being a Newcastle player previously. The whole team were gobsmacked when Bobby Moncur turned up and it was all true. He was a really nice bloke as well. Problem with tiddly winks plym is it could have your eye out.
My problem wasn't with flicking. I always tiddled when I should have been winking and vice versa. It's a Naval problem throughout the fleet as Lyndhurst would know only too well. I bet he's winked when he should have tiddled.......
Yes it is a well known medical issue which affects sailors that have been at sea too long and causes them to wink when they should have tiddled. A bit similar to staring at the sea from a moving ship for an extended period which causes an irrational and overwhelming desire to throw oneself into the water. Fortunately I have never suffered from either.
Oh but I can, still have to pass the Naval swimming test during new entry training and have swum in every ocean. We still have the tradition of 'hands to bathe' where we stop the ship in the middle of the ocean and take the opportunity to have a swim for half an hour or so. Must admit it can be a bit unnerving swimming when you can't see land in any direction and can't touch the bottom! To the best of my knowledge no one has been eaten by a creature of the deep during these evolutions, but we do have a few armed lookout personnel just in case the occasional shark turns up!
Swimming in the sea off of Aden was the best I had experienced, the salt water buoyancy was great....you could just lay on your back and float....must admit there where sharks around.....but Arab Dhows were more dangerous.
As meeting minutes usually say when a discussion runs wild "a wide ranging conversation ensued"......
You're just jealous notdistant. I went inside the Artic Circle once on a ship and got my Blue Nose Certificate. Didn't bother with a swim though. Have swum in the Gulf though and gone fishing which, when you look at what you catch makes the swimming bit a tad bonkers. I have never swum with RAF personnel though as I would never enter a changing room with one of them under any circumstances.
I have not heard of blue nose! but a brown nose as slot of that goes on with the council I think.. with the brown envelopes.. now I better not touch on that subject as I have just missed out on a new business premise ... say no more .. perhaps I should have made an offer in an envelope ... no chance
I have three blue nose certificates, but mine are still covered by the official secrets act- at least until I retire next year.
