http://www.theswanseaway.co.uk/2013/10/interview-whatever-happened-to-matthew.html?#.Ulv589L-I1Q A very good interview with a Swans Leg end.
No mention of the £30,000 though , a solid partnership although he lost his way when Smith was out injured then finished retired , but I liked him , the last time I saw him was at the Playoff final v Barnsley @ Cardiff ,nice guy and came across as a fan of the club rather than an ex employee
I met him at the Swansea Beer Festival many years ago when he was still playing for us. Very nice guy. I guess times have changed as have we as a Club. I doubt our players would be seen anywhere near such an event these days. He says as much in the interview. Nice post.
Thanks for that. Great read especially about the atmosphere at the Vetch A large part of me still misses the Vetch badly and wishes we were still there (although we seem to have done OK since). I was at the Oxford away game where he and Allslop got a lot of stick. Let's say he behaved in a lot more dignified manner than Allslop.
Jules had a thing for bananas ,that was his downfall . Boundy was a fine centre half but his career went downwards once Jason Smith finished playing which was a great pity imo
He was one of the creditors that the club owed money to during the CVA , it caused a bit of a fuss at the time He felt he was entitled to it as was his right and the club was fighting for survival .
I wouldnt call him a Leg End, did good things, but also as already been mentioned there were issues.......I don't doubt his great defending or his like for our club, he was fighting for money he was allegedly entitled too so he could feed his family/future......wouldn't we all if our employer didn't pay?.............. but Legend? I dont think so, no where near TBH He likes our city though as he is often in Mumbles
As was his right? Legally yes, morally no as when he left he immediately got a 3 year contract at Oxford. At the end of the day, he voted against the CVA and was willing to see the club go to the wall knowing that he still wouldn't get his money if we did!
I made no judgement on whether it was wrong or not , legally yes morally in some eyes no but that was his prerogative .Could any of us afford to lose 30,000 then let alone now regardless of the effect it may have by making such demands .?
Sorry, I was merely replying to your post rather making judgement on you personally. But the point I was making is that he Didn't lose £30k did he? He lost nothing as he gained a 3 year contract at Oxford. He knew that legally he could fight for the money even if it meant the club going bust should he wish to do so. And yes, he did so. If someone owed you 30k and someone else stepped in and said "heh! don't worry about that, here's £60k"! Would you then go back years later and try to claim that £30k knowing it would bankrupt them and yet you still wouldn't get your money? Of course you wouldn't. Very bad form from him.
