For those of us that have wished this site had the capability to do match threads!
Mick is working on it , and is getting a developer in to help!
He would appreciate ideas to incorporate into this new feature!

Ak your our Match thread maestro, any thing you would like see put into this?

All ideas welcome! Cmon people this issue has really been our only concern on an otherwise cracking site! Now we have a chance to suggest what we would like to see:)

The only thing I would say is try to merge the threads but if the club we're playing have their own matchday thread then it should display theirs on their forum.

Does that make sense? Typed it in a rush, will re-explain later if necessary <ok>

I think the main thing that is needed is the link between the two sets of fans.

What I think would be useful is if the forum was "live". What I mean by this is as soon as someone replies to a thread, the reply automatically appears, without the need for refreshing the page. This would be particularly useful when it came to match threads.

I am not too sure about the logistics of this, and would imagine the entire forum would need to be upgraded. But, I do find it annoying that when viewing a match thread and the game starts to get a bit hairy, you have to frantically hit the refresh button until another update appears.

I guess the main feature is the capability to select two forums for it to show at the same time.... with comments updated on both!

An auto-refresh is a good idea, just not sure how feasible it would be, or if you can have it as an option when creating a thread. I expect it will also mean locking/closing the thread soon after the match so it is not on a continuous refresh loop.

Beyond that, I think Ak will be best asking the questions, asking for details about code etc as I have absolutely no idea on all that! The BBC ones were great, adn the ones on here were looking good, with the pics etc...

I would make the following suggestions

    • Only allow match threads between two clubs. If this site replicates the 606 function of being able to post uncontrolled amounts of bollocks to ten or twelve clubs at once, you'll start losing people for the same reasons that people left 606 in the past.
    • Consider setting a minimum number of posts before you are able to post multi-board articles. Keep it low of course, as we don't want to create an elite. Once people get to 50-odd posts they'll have a pretty good idea of who does the match threads for their club.

Obviously a club-club 'link' is vital, so both teams can view a single match thread and not have to visit other boards.

Also, maybe a more simple way to set it out, or new images/graphics that can be used to title things, etc and make it easier to read/more professional looking.

My main thing would be the auto-refresh especially on the Match threads!

Just about all I am concerned about has been said..... <applause>

I think we might need to consider how they are modded........ so we dont get into abuse..... never happened much on 606 on our threads but occassionally you got certain clubs who seemed to enjoy posting loads of drive..... mods from each club will need to mod for their own club etc.

Sorry I typed that in a rush, was late for a meeting...

First of all NNW's idea of not making it possible to add threads to all teams boards is essential. That was one of the worst features of 606.

The idea I tried to explain was:

Match threads work as usual, so the link on each board brings you to the thread. I just thought it'd be nice as an option to have the possibility of changing the initial post shown on each team's forum. Ak does a great job for ours, but if another team has someone that makes matchday threads then it should be possible for them to show theirs on their initial post, and ours on ours.

I'm finding it terribly difficult to explain, it's really quite simple though...

Norway - I think this is just about what Mick is able to do - he is aware of it and says he has been working on it but perhaps it is not as easy as he thought - have you PM'd him recently on it? Or posted on the Mod Board to get other moderators involved in applying pressure?

Thw two other factors that still detract for me are:
    1) not seeing the full article once a thread has started.... we therefore lose all the quality of the layout visually of thr article... it just becomes a first posting....
    2) not being ale to see my own last postings on a list and replies to them... this board is so busy now <ok> that it is diff to keep up to replies form people to your own postings if you miss even half a day on some threads.

On the second point yes , although I dont think pressure is the right word;) , and not yet to the first point, as going to let this run a bit longer and then give Mick a pm referencing this thread! Although I am sure he has ideas of his own , but at least we have put our views forward:)
