    atford 3-0 Bolton Wanderers

    The teams

Watford return to Vicarage Road for the first game of the 2014-15 season with a large selection of new players and half a new stand. The only certainties are Sean Murray and Craig Cathcart will not play as they are already injured with a knee and ankle problem respectively. Keith Andrews will also not play as his loan contract says he cannot play against his normal club.

Bolton may see Darren Pratley return from his long term shoulder injury but Mark Davies injured his foot in pre-season training.

    Previous

Bolton have a good record against their hosts, seven wins in the last eight matches. Watford won their last game in February 2013 when they managed a 2:1 win.

    Odd facts

The Hornets last lost on the first day of the season when Everton won 2:1 in 2006, with some help from the referee. Bolton are less successful as first match winners but they did beat Queens Park Rangers 4:0 a few years ago.

Pictures are an issue atm. They are not showing until someone edits the post and even then they vanish.

Nicely done AK. I was just in the process of doing one as I thought I said I would do the opening match. But I need not continue as you have done an admirable job.

Thanks ak. Still does not show the badges for me unless I click on the attachment.

No idea what team we will put out and was alarmed when I read today that we would be revolving the players. Hope they do not get into too much of a spin.

    Thanks AK. <magic>

I am not going to do any match threads this season.

Anyway, to get to the point, tomorrow's match. Well, great the season is finally starting. I hope Watford can hit the ground running. It is very unpredictable at the best of times and the start of the league is no exception. I'd take any form of win and will do all season. I think the interesting thing will be to see how we line up, it may give us an insight into how we are going to approach this season. Also, it will enable us to see how some new signings are doing, initially albeit.

This seems a reasonable article reviewing all teams in this 46 game war!!

Maybe time to put this fact from the BBC to right, "Bolton have won seven of the last eight encounters in all competitions, losing the other one. Watford's only win since 2000 was 2-1 at Vicarage Road in the Championship in February 2013." :steam:

I have had a rest from writing match threads and I will do more this season. This is a bit of a collection of bones.

Thanks Ak :). Great start to the season! Let's hope the team can do the same. I have no idea who might play but I'd like to see Dyer on the pitch. I think he will be essential this season. I'd also start Ighalo, and I'd drop Anya and Deeney! Controversial I know but they haven't been great and nobody should be on the team sheet just because of who they are. Anyway. Obviously going for a 3-1 win and a cracking start to the season :)

Looking forward to this. As for guessing what might happen...absolutely no idea. The beer will be cold, the sausage baguette (with onions) will be hot, the chat in the pub will be entertaining, but the football?

We will manage NOT to give away a goal in the final 5 minutes?

There is some sort of issue with the pitch according to the WO.

    Hopefully won't affect our performance.

Difficult one to predict this - will our good first day record hold or our poor record against Bolton - probably means a draw so I am going for a home win 2-1 :)

Anyone like to guess without knowing the team who will score the first Watford goal of the season? I quite miss Mitch who could tell you with certainty who it would be and at what time in the game. ;)

Not sure on this one Bolton are a hard team to call, so I think it will be tougher than most think and with all the changes again a 1-1 draw might not be a bad result to start with Dyer to score his first of the season for me.
