I guess we know how Reading felt when they got the draw against us now... We didn't play well or really deserve anything but them's the breaks.
Well I will gladly take that point! We never put any pressure on what must be the shakiest defence in the league and let them have too time in midfield. But well done Nathan Dyer on scoring on his return. Other results are looking OK for us QPR losing, Reading & Norwich drawing and Sunderland and Wigan losing.
Thats agreat point, they have the shakiest defence but if you flew down from mars you would think southampton were the team in white !! we must be joint with them on the shakey defence score !! Another point i must make is of Itay shect or whatever he is called, i dont see anything in his game that adds to us, the only thing he offers is running offside ALL THE TIME !! he would have been clean through on goal but the guy just dont seem to have a clue how to lead the line, he looks like a mistake by Laudrup but its difficult to judge him too harshly in the limited appearences he has made, runs around like a headless chicken .
Oh yes, give us a song or dance then!.................. What is it with us and bottom of the table teams?......
Thought I'd give my take on the game. I did predict a 2-1 win for us but before kick off would have taken a draw. Southampton weren't that bad they did threaten us going forward, I was worried at set pieces but thought we coped well with there arial bombardment. Gary Monk got a couple of great tackles in, he's had some stick lately but I thought he came through the physica battle with Lambert very well. I did think it was a below par performance by us, our passing at times was very sloppy and we did put ourselves under pressure when their was no need to. Hernandez frustrated the hell out of me and he lost the ball on many occasions. De Guzman mmmmmm not a good game for him, he was a culprit for a lot of the poor passing. Great to see Nathan get on the score sheet, after there fans giving him stick for where he's from. Young Davies had a good game. Kemy looked quality when he came on, added a bit of muscle to our midfield. Player scores: Tremmel - 6 Some good stops especially on in the first half that took a deflection got down well and turned it round the post. Wish he could command his area better. Rangel - 6 Had his usual solid game got caught out a couple of times. Davies - 7 The lad is improving. Monk - 7 Got some crucial tackles and blocks in. Williams - 6 Not a bad display, got some good headers in and his cross field passes, is their anybody better than Ash with this sort of pass. I don't think so. Britton - 7 Leon is Leon, a typical hard grafting game, got muscled out now and again but good ball distribution. Ki - 7 This lad is the business, works tirelessly, just wish he could start getting some goals, then he's the finished article. De Guzman - 5 Frustrated with him, made some poor decisions and sloppy with his passing. Routledge - 6 Not one of his better games, I'll leave him off it as he's been playing really well. Hernandez - 6 Oh why won't he attack his man and take them on, he has the pace!! Michu - 6 Works hard, but not one of his better games. Subs: Dyer - 7 Shut the Scummers up with there taunts, nobody better to score than him. Take a salute young man!!! Oh he did!!! Scheter - 6 I thought he did give us something more up front, held the ball up well and brought other players into attack. But he should be looking along the line as that was sacrilege being offside when he would have been clean through. Ageustin - 6 Wasn't on long enough otherwise it would have been a 7, some classy passes plus a little bit of bite in midfield. If he can get some game time I can see him ousting De Guzman and starting. In the end I think it was a well earned point.
Cant really argue with any of those ratings fella, i think i would score it the same. Monk did indeed hold his own against their attack, the crazy thing about Southampton is that they have spent £30 m quid on players yet look like a team thats going to struggle all year long, we are probably one of the softest touches away from home and they knew that, but didnt have the tools to do anything about it
I was Stuck in Cardiff too... But with Matt Smith and the Doctor Who crew. The crew did set up to watch sport but it was just the egg chasers so I didn't find out about the Soton v swans game until I got home about half and hour ago. I'm not sure what to think yet. Just watching Motd now.
Agree about JDG but disagree about Monk. He did get in a couple of good blocks but lost his man for the goal. There were other instances where he went missing, which could have cost us and was very lucky not to concede a penalty. Yes, he is doing a reasonable job as a stand in but I can't wait for Chico to return to be honest. I saw yet again how many times we lost the tussle in the tackle. We are just not strong enough in this area and it was good to see Kemy come on and add a bit of beef. We need a Bodde type there who is going to win us some ball. As good as Ki is, he doesn't have this in his locker despite his size. Leon forages and intercepts but isn't strong enough whilst JDG can be a bit of a show pony and doesn't put his foot in. It's all well and good having players who are good on the ball but when we are facing teams that will not give us the time to do this, we struggle. We need the present guys to do a lot more of the dirty work and win us the ball so we can play. Pure football doesn't always work and our quality was cancelled out today by a team that rolled its sleeves up and went for us. Just as I had feared and forecast. As for Michu, I am far from convinced that he is as effective playing as an out and out striker. He is there to be targeted and shot at and we are losing the surprise element of him arriving late from midfield to make an extra striker. There is no doubt that he puts in a shift but he got his goals from midfield in La Liga and that is obviously his best position, in my opinion. For me, there is much to do before we can say this team will definitely keep us up. We need more steel in midfield and that is a glaring necessity. And I wish that we were not so shot shy. We keep faffing about with the ball trying to get the perfect set up when a snap shot is obviously called for. Finally, we insist on playing passes in the wrong areas of the pitch. We pressurised ourselves today by playing stupid tika taka when a bloody good boot was called for. Sometimes direct IS best......
Bloody hell were you ? Haven't seen him since the last series give him my best next time you see him!
I won't get to see him again. I was just chaperone to my Daughter who has a small part in one episode of Doctor Who; My wife will be chaperoning for the rest of the filming dates. Interestingly Jenna-Louise Coleman (new Companion) and Warwick Davies were there too.
Monk fair play had some good write ups in the Sunday papers.....got stuck in and held is own with no problem...
