Reds again lose a lead but hold the unbeaten league leaders.

Barnsley secured their first home draw of the season today. It has come in their seventh home league match, the longest we have waited for an Oakwell stalemate for 15 years. Back in 1999-2000 it did not arrive until the 11th home game.

Barnsley have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their first seven home league matches. It took until the eighth to keep one last season.

The Reds have now won just two of their first seven home games, one less than at this stage last season…..

This clash again lived up to the pre match promise of goals. Another four today means there has now been 43 in the last 10 meetings!

Conor Hourihane has now bagged eight goals in 17 appearances for Barnsley. He scored nine in 53 in 2013-2014 for Plymouth.

Today was the fifth time The Reds have been behind at the break in League One this season. They have lost just two of those matches.

Bristol City are now unbeaten in 15 matches this season, continuing to set a new club record. They have drawn each of their last two matches 2-2 and by failing to win today they failed to make it three successive wins on the road.

Luke Ayling became the 15th different player to score for Bristol City this season… in only their 17th match in all competitions.

Barnsley have now conceded 24 goals in 14 league matches, only four sides have conceded more, and three of those occupy the bottom three places in the division.

They have though scored 22, the highest amount outside the top ten.

Bristol City’s goals today were the 15th and 16th conceded at Oakwell, along with Crewe this the most home goals conceded in League One.

Oakwell is definitely the place to be if you want to see goals. There have been 30 in just seven League One matches. No other ground has seen this many in the division.

Barnsley 2-2 Bristol City: Post Match Reaction - Danny Wilson..

    By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

"I felt we were desperately unlucky today not get the three points. Our attacking play was brilliant"- Danny Wilson

"It was a terrific performance from everybody,"

"I felt we were desperately unlucky today not get the three points. Our attacking play was brilliant.

"The second goal against us was very similar to what happened on Tuesday when the ball gets smashed into the box and it hits Martin Cranie in the face and falls straight to their striker - the same today.

"It's hit Sam Winnall in the face and gone straight to Aarron Wilbraham."

"Really the lads can give themselves a real pat on the back,"

"We just have to keep going and keep believing. If we continue to work as hard as we do, we'll get our rewards - it might not be in one particular game but it might over the season.

"The performances are getting quite consistent. We've got to believe and keep going. I thought the fans were absolutely brilliant again. Even at 1-0 down they stayed with us and at the end we got them rocking and rolling and nearly on their feet at the end to get the winner.

"It says to me that the fans really understand what we're doing and they can see an improvement which is important."

Steve Cotterill: "Everyone wants to beat us"

    By Joe Sharratt, Reporter

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill admitted that the League One leaders have a bullseye on their back following their unbeaten start to the season.

Cotterill saw his side battle back from 2-1 down to rescue a draw against Barnsley at Oakwell this afternoon thanks to Aaron Wilbraham's late goal.

The point extends the Robins' run without defeat to 21 games and leaves them five points clear at the top of the table.

"Everyone wants to beat us; that's pressure, but we showed composure to come back and get a point," Cotterill told reporters.

"It was a really good game, end-to-end. Their crowd got them going. It's a very tough place to come.

"You always want your strikers to score so I'm delighted Aaron Wilbraham managed to get the equaliser."

Bristol City return to action next Saturday when they welcome Oldham Athletic to Ashton Gate.

    Cotterill praises City composure..

Manager delighted with response to falling behind.

Steve Cotterill praised the composure of his players after their unbeaten start to the league season was given one of its sternest examinations at Oakwell.

City looked on course to extend the club record run into November with a victory after Luke Ayling headed a 37th minute opener in South Yorkshire.

But hosts Barnsley were an entirely different proposition after the break and threw everything at the league leaders, turning the game on its head through Sam Winnall’s curler and a Conor Hourihane penalty midway through the second half.

However, as is becoming the norm up and down the country, City refused to buckle. Aaron Wilbraham rifled home from 20 yards with 11 minutes to go and it was the visitors pushing harder for maximum points, despite Hourihane crashing a shot against the woodwork five minutes from time.

“In the first half I felt we were in total control of the game, but it’s always a difficult place to come and get a result,” Cotterill told Bristol City Player.

“I don’t think there was the biggest crowd in here today but when they get behind their team it gives their players a big lift.

“I wouldn’t say we were on the ropes for any longer than 20 minutes in the second half, and that was probably down to ourselves forcing possession a little bit when we were 1-0 up.

“From when they got their second goal for the remainder of the game – apart from the one chance they had – I was really pleased with our players.

“It’s not just Bristol City who are 2-1 down away from home with 20 minutes to go; it’s Bristol City who everyone wants to beat.

“But the composure we showed in that period of time… we’ve absolutely dominated and deservedly got an equaliser.

“Full credit to our boys for that, I thought we were absolutely magnificent.”

“It’s not just Bristol City who are 2-1 down away from home with 20 minutes to go; it’s Bristol City who everyone wants to beat."
