The last time Saints won a match at Arsenal was on 21 November 1987 at Highbury.

I am just old enough to remember this result - wasnt at the game but remember seeing the updates come through on Grandstand on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal dominated and Rod Wallace popped up with the winner.

    Saints team that day

    John Burridge
    Gerry Forrest
    Kevin Moore
    Kevin Bond
    Derek Statham
    Graham Baker
    Andy Townsend
    Jimmy Case
    Glenn Cockerill
    Danny Wallace
    Colin Clarke
    sub Rodney Wallace

The Arsenal team of that day was made up of
John Lukic, Kenny Sansom, Tony Adams, David O'Leary, Michael Thomas, David Rocastle, Paul Davis, Steve Williams, Kevin Richardson, Perry Groves and Alan Smith - subs Niall Quinn and Nigel Winterburn making his debut.

We also won the return game in April at the Dell 4-2.

This was the old English Division 1. Arsenal went on to finish 6th and Saints 12th. Liverpool won the title and Chelsea were relegated. Another team relegated were Portsmouth.

Apart from 4 players - every player was english. The 4 others were Irish -Clarke, Townsend, Quinn and O'Leary.

Anyone remember this game to fill in anymore details - Anyone at the game.

Any other arsenal v Saints memories? and can we do it again next week?

I was there and remember it well. Made mistake of standing on the North Bank. Very unpopular when we scored!

Anyone remember when you used to play the same team twice over Easter and we played Arsenal. They were average, and we were awful yet we won 3-0 away and 2-0 at home to guarantee safety. Would have been around 1968 from memory, but wondered if any old fans could help me out.

One of my darkest memories is Delap scoring twice to put us 2-1 up and the ref kept play going until all our team had showered and were on the coach when Arsenal equalised. Dark memory as it was our relegation season and those two points could have been handy.

Blimey this is going back a while. The best I can do is when Arsenal were one of only two teams to beat us at home all season (the other was Liverpool I think). Not sure if it was the cup final season or the one before. Also our last encounter was the "David Prutton" one.

Yeah that hurt a lot. I can still remember holding up my radio and my face sank when I heard the equaliser go in.

The last match at the dell does make me feel a bit better about the whole thing however!

Burridge played for almost every team in the league! Some good young players in the Arsenal team.

Went to a number of games at Highbury, great place to visit. The most memorable have to be watching the final home game of the season when the Invincibles won the league & the 6-2 game shortly before our FA cup clash:both teams put out strange line-ups which included us bringing on Chris Baird in midfield during the first half.Luzhny & Stepanovs played at the back (only game I remember them playing well) &Jermaine Pennant got a hattrick. The final score was 6-2 but it could have easily been 6 all as Beattie hit the bar twice in a mad but exciting game.
