I couldn't see a thread on this yet so thought I would do one Kelvin Davis 8- Much better performance from him. He commanded the box well and made a world class save to keep us in front Danny Butterfield 7- Tough game for him against Pugh but he dealt with him well and got stronger as the game went on Jose Fonte 7- Good performance albeit with a couple of sticky moments. Lucky not to give away a penalty but overall was a strong display Radhi Jaidi 7- Lucky not to be sent off but dealt with their aerial threat well Dan Harding 6- Tough game for him against a quick winger. Misplaced quite a few passes aswell Alex Chamberlain 8- So dangerous when he gets the ball. Terrified their left back at times Dean Hammond 8- Another great display from the captain especially in the 2nd half. Took his goal well and you could see how much it meant to him Richard Chaplow 5- Very poor today. Misplaced so many passes and the game seemed to bypass him a lot of the time Adam Lallana 8- Class display again. Not involved much in the 1st half but was terrific in the second half. His skill is just too much for other teams to cope with Rickie Lambert 7- Not one of his better displays but still linked up well and a wonderful goal Lee Barnard 9- Man of the match. Brilliant performance. Never stopped running and was a massive handful to Bournemouth Atmosphere: Home 7- Loud at times but expected a bit better Away 10- Brilliant atmosphere today. Hardly stopped singing the whole game Entertainment 7- Not a classic but an enthralling game nevertheless
Purely from the updates and watching the highlights on FLS, it looked like Lambert had a fantastic game. Worked really hard to set up Barnard, and finally a decent free kick!
I was at the game - think those ratings are pretty much spot on. Maybe Lambert deserves higher than a 7, but that would only be because of his part in two of the goals... I definitely agree about Chaplow, had a real off day today. Still, three great points. Cheers for the ratings!
Thanks, always appreciate view of fan who was actually there. From other sources I was beginning to get the idea we were poor and lucky to win. Stand up Nigel Adkins. Boy, was he despondent after the game, though that may have been due to Gobern's dismissal. Or it may be that NA has very high standards and Saints aren't cutting it for him. At this time of the season points are everything, Nigel. Let's entertain the Championship next year.
Well Chamberlain i was dissapointed with..... i think Lallana, was the one the looked like doing something. I spoke to Mark Pugh afterwards and his take was the difference being :ambert as he was able to hold up the ball
Just a few thoughts based on listening to the Solent commentatory, reading reports, and general hearsay, Lambert is playing a different role, more of a creator than a finisher, but was defending well when needed too, Harding picked up a knock early doors and probably played on too long as Dickson wasn't there to replace him, Oxo was causing problems but took a couple of hits which may have made him a bit more cautious, Jedi was struggling with the little guys, but in his element against Fletcher, Chaplow, since he has got his contact seems to be slacking off, goes missing and the game is passing him by. As for Oscars red, that was weird, he was realy shifting and the brakes didn't work when the Cherry guy stepped in front, and the attempt to avoid contact was comical to say the least, looked like his body wasn't heeding his brain, I am convinced that there was no intent, but the contact meant that he had to go. The League show last night gave us a reasonable coverage, but didn't even look at the Fonte penalty incident so presumably it wasn't worth pursuing. The camera angle on their goal was inconclusive but NA said it was a legit goal so no argument their then! Also when Sebo came on he looked perfectly at home at Left Back so maybe ready made cover in that area? Lala, Butts, Barney and Hammond just outstanding. KD did what he had to do, kept his concentration resulting in that blinding save. Overall a satisfactory outcome, it was never going to be pretty, there was too much hype.
Come on bp1234....you can do better than that. I have had 3 phone calls from Ardent Cherry supporters and they were more forth coming than that. I didn't have you down as a sore loser.....So come on be a bit more charitable and agree we had just that bit more quality, your other offering actually says that in a way. It is not a disgrace to lose. Bournemouth gave it all they had got. So in the way they played you should not be disappointed. We had just a bit more quality and yes before you say it, we should have, with the money we have spent. Now come on and be magnanimous.
It was a close game and could have gone either way. That extra bit of quality won it for us in the end. Think the referee was right not to give Bournemouth a penalty, Ings had taken the ball wide and was going nowhere so tried to make the most of it. If that had been given then the one of Chaplow moments before should have been too. Thought we looked a it more solid defensively when Seabourne came on for Harding although I don't think he got past the half way line! I've been slating Kelvin for a while now, but that save off Anton Robinson could be the most important save this season. Good luck Cherries but I think it will be Brighton, Saints and P'boro up next year!
Lambert did well for the first and obviously scored the thrid but apart from that was pretty inaffective! However, he is paid to score goals and you cant argue with 1 goal and 1 assist! Barnard was immense today, prob his best performace, he was everywhere, chasing down lost causes, basically doing Lamberts running aswell. Lallana was poor for 60 minutes but then just sprang into life and was unplayable towards the end
Hey i am not a sore loser and you won the game.. Footballing wise it was not great to be honest, and there was not much in it aswell. I do think the biggest difference waws maybe Lallana and Lambert....... Look we done well didnt pass it that well and nor did you, but you wona nad we still will be alright. I thhink the pressure now will be off us for a bit now so i think that maybe will help us.
I think you are right about Lallana, i did not think Chamberlain had any real impact on the game and like you said it was Lallan who looked excellent for hte last 30 mins... I think Lambert gave you a holding up option, and it was a great free kick. i think in the centre of midfield was very scrappy and there not much in it... i am gracious in defeat and have no complaints
Well done bp1234........ to be honest I had posted the previous one before I looked at the others. to be honest pal your chairman may have been the reason for your defeat. He really got up the fans nose and the players as well. In my view he is an embarrassment to Bournemouth at the moment. He is not giving you guys a very good reputation, and that isn't just from a Saints point of view either. Still it takes all sorts..........
Hey, i did say i will enjoy banter win or lose and will take some stick but its when you get one or two stupid comments you think, no need for it...we lost and i amdit but then you get people saying silly things Our Chairman opened his mouth and i know maybe it didnt not help but to be honest on the otherhand he has helped turn the club around so for that i am thankful. I do not beleive he will be here long term, but if we can establish outselves , improve the club we will be fine...... The pitch was not great and that has to beimproved. It is a good pitch but quite bobbly... We are both football fans and can talk about the game the pros and cons, andi am not bitter, i actually had a good, and our season still has so much to offer...... We all in football can say if buts and maybe, and we all can do that everygame... going back to the game, when some fans say you stuffed us, i find that a bit silly but i just think the Lallana difference even though smith played well against him................ I can also see how you can be beaten away, and think the Jaidi is a bit of liability for you, and htere is a lot of football still to be played....
Jaidi has lately has been a concern ... and no disrespect to the Cherries but if we had to play Peterborough away this month instead of Feb ...highly likely we would have got battered than pulling off a 4-4 draw. Lets see if Aaron Martin can get given another chance to step up and rise to the challenge, and give Jaidi a bit of a break to reflect.
Yeah i think it if youp lay teams in form.. I think for the last couple of weeks i have stated that we have not been playing well...and that i knew that Exeter away, Saints home and then Carlise away would be tough....... Look at MK dons who have also hit a purple patch and Orient just dont seen to lose........ i know form speaking to a few of you that you have not been playing well either but you are picking up the points, and it is funny how good that feels compared to battering a team and losing....... I think you will be Wednesday saturday but if they go in the break level it could become a nervy game....they are capable of being very organised at your place..... after that i think that is when your biggest test will come...
