So on Sunday at 2pm, after a week long hiatus, Pompey are back in action in the league against Cardiff, hoping to get their first win in several games and secure three points which will help them in their quest to stay up this season! It had seemed like three points were in the bag until Barnet struck an equaliser in the last five minutes of normal time. However, it could have been so much worse. With Pompey's goalkeeper, Sadie Blakeley injured, defender Fiona McMillan was forced to take up the gloves. With just moments left in the game, McMillan became an unlikely hero by making a stunning save with the scores level at 2-2 to ensure Portsmouth got a a point. Previously, Portsmouth had taken the lead in the 8th minute with Jemme Tewkesbury finishing from distance. Barnet equalised almost straight after. 1-1 was the half time score. In the 70th minute, Portsmouth re-took the league, from a header by Kirsty McGee but Barnet hit back again in the 86th minute yet despite their pressing for a winner, Portsmouth held on to draw. They were first formed in 1975 as Llanederyn Ladies Football Club, initially playing in the South West League. In 1981, the club changed it's name to Cardiff L.F.C., subsequently linking up with Inter Cardiff. In 1997, the club broke ties with Inter Cardiff and became Cardiff County L.F.C. due to affiliation with Cardiff County Council. The club became affiliated with Cardiff City in 2001 before becoming independent in 2003. Cardiff won the Premier League Southern Division in 2006 to gain promotion to the National Division, but were relegated two seasons later. In 2011, the club won promotion to the National Division, where they have remained since. We looked down and out in that game, but have picked ourselves up from that." âAgainst Barnet we looked determined not to be beaten and showed great attitude and endeavour." âWe still didnât keep the ball as well as I would have liked, but I was happy with the way we threw ourselves into everything." âThe big downside, of course, was the injury to Sadie. It's still early days, but her kneeâs very swollen and she will be out for a few weeks.â The League Table As It Stands POS P W D L GD PTS 1 Sunderland WFC 6 5 1 0 15 16 2 Leeds United LFC 6 4 0 2 3 12 3 Watford LFC 5 3 1 1 3 10 4 Cardiff City LFC 5 2 1 2 3 7 5 Charlton Athletic WFC 6 2 1 3 2 7 6 Manchester City LFC 5 2 1 2 2 7 7 Portsmouth FC Ladies 6 2 1 3 -5 7 8 Coventry City LFC 6 2 0 4 -4 6 9 Aston Villa LFC 6 2 0 4 -7 6 10 Barnet FC Ladies 5 0 2 3 -12 2

Well I'm hoping to go to this game so I might have some photos possibly. I'm not looking forward to the train journey though. *sigh*
Half time at moneyfields, pompey are 2-nil up. Cardiff tbh have been on top but after scoring their first, portsmouth have looked better and nearly scored again before adding the second not long later.
Finished 3-3, though cardiff got a completely undeserved penalty. Could have gone either way at the end.
Tbh, a draw was a fair result I think. The way Cardiff started, I felt a draw would have been a good result but then we got into the game and got 2-nil up. Cardiff's first goal was a brilliant, net bursting shot from outside the area which no keeper could have stopped. The second goal was, as I said at the time, a gift and to be honest, it could have ended up in another 7-2 demolishing, however Portsmouth dug in and took the lead again. Can't really complain about the final Cardiff goal, it was one of those moments where the keeper came for it but perhaps should have stayed on the line. She did get a hand to it I think, but not enough to deflect it out of the path of a Cardiff player. So I wouldn't say we were robbed, Cardiff looked the side with greater experience, but Portsmouth looked able to match them. I'll post some pictures in a bit!
