It's back to the League Cup and Pompey face a re-match against Cardiff City on Sunday, with whom they drew 3-3 (I was there!) just two match rounds previously in the league, in a group stage match. Focus on Pompey please log in to view this image Travelling to Leeds, Portsmouth fell to a comprehensive (sorry) 3-0 defeat to the team currently ranked second in the league. Leeds dominated the opening minutes and deservedly took the lead on the 35th minute from a long range strike. This spurred Portsmouth into action who came close to equalising as Jemma Tewkesbury shot over, followed by Kirsty McGee's goalbound strike being deflected behind. 1-0 was the half time score. While Portsmouth did well to keep the score down, eventually Leeds' pressure paid off as they scored two more goals in the last 25 minutes of the game. Focus on Cardiff please log in to view this image As my match preview for Cardiff at home covered the team's history, I thought for this section I would provide a bit of information about their cup run so far this season. Cardiff currently lie in first place in the group, but having played a game more than Portsmouth (3 compared to 2) and are on 7 points. Cardiff opened their cup campaign with a 0-0 draw to Yeovil Town LFC, this was followed by a 3-2 win over Reading and most recently, a 3-1 victory against QPR. You got the score-line right, Devon, but you got the result wrong. Cardiff won 3-2. Oh well, at least it's not the league, it won't have badly affected our goal difference and if we finish second in the group, that's alright and I think Cardiff are the strongest team in the group. Turns out Cardiff scored in stoppage time. We just keep conceding goals in the last few minutes and we have no chance of staying up if that doesn't stop.
Okay, I may have been a bit unfair, it turns out apparently Cardiff were given a controversial penalty in the last minute. There's a surprise http://www.facebook.com/PortsmouthFCLadies
