http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43183716 Neil Lennon seething about the state of performance from a Referee. He makes good comments about how such poor decisions cost a Football Club money and that it's Managers who get sent to the stands when it should be the Match Official. I know there is a system in place to 'rest' an official after a poor game (or at least high-profile games) but should stronger action be taken against consistently poor Referee's?
If you had a system in place where refs could be taken off the pitch mid-game then you would probably see more refereeing mistakes and not less
You're right, taking a Ref off during a game would be chaos but I think that there should be a tougher stance taken against major errors. A banning system for officials who cost Clubs a result / points would sharpen things up. It seems to me that the officials get too much protection and are not held accountable for their mistakes.
It's a tough one. you want the best officials to be officiating matches and there should be a way of making sure that officials who made mistakes were prevented from making the same mistakes again. However, it's hard to know the best way of approaching it. Managers don't even know how to do it with players. Sometimes they will drop the player and force them to fight their way back into the team. Does that mean dropping refs a few leagues down but then inflicting bad refereeing on lower league teams? We hated that last year. However, if you don't do that then how do they ever fight their way back? Other managers throw players straight back into the deep end to help the player get over their mistake. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think it would be the same for refs.
Sent off?! No! What is the ref sending off the ref gets it wrong, or will they be referring to a third referees referee?!! Mistakes are as bad now as they've ever been. Technology is the threat but potential solution to everything. It's the same parallel as those idiots who have an "issue" with dreadlocks; these moronic tossers have always been around, it's just the last 10 years or so has given them Twitter, Facebook and Instagram instead of just moaning over a spliff to a few of their feckless mates. Back on topic, VAR will help. I still don't know why there's only two lino's instead of 4, that would help. The main things that would help is the fcking media calming down about it all, less airtime for Neville's anal-ysis and an FA that hasn't got its' head up its' ass.
Maybe the players should stop all the play acting and diving, refs are human and will always make mistakes but the amount of effort players put into deception is just ridiculous.
Nah I think we all need to stop the hyperbole around refereeing, accept the decisions they make, get VAR working better to help them, and generally stop being such a bunch of fannies. The managers and players need to take a long hard look at themselves and their behaviour towards officials. The constant pressuring them in the press, then pre game, during the game and post game is scandalous. Whether this is verbally, diving around, waving imaginary cards or any other measure. Those playing and partaking in the game, and the media, have created a poisonous cesspit with regard to officials. I have no problem trying to drive up standards, or using technology to improve it. However until those partaking in the game sort their end of the bargain out, I don't think anything should be done to appease ****ers like Lennon who add to the issues themselves, then whinge about it.
