I was in Franc for a couple of days this week and on Wednesday evening I returned to my hotel room after supper to discover Saints v Arsenal was on their programme "Match of ZE Day" which covered that evenings premiership games. They were raving on and on about Forster and our neat football and seemed really disappointed that we lost it in unfortunate circumstances at the end. What I did like was that the presenter and match analyst had a microphone clipped to each lapel of their jackets. I assumed this was for stereophonic reasons but on reflection thought it was to ensure a balanced view. The French don't come in their trousers like Sky, the BBC and BT do over matches involving Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea. The BBC could learn more than a few lessons from Canal on how to cover a football match. PS The football show is really called Match of Ze Day which made me laugh. Where in France were you Godders? I'm hoping (but struggling) to find one more trip to Burgundy before Christmas.
I was in Epernay on Tuesday to visit Damery to buy champagne direct from a champagne house I like and then travelled back to Arras on Wednesday so that I could visit a family WW1 grave and also the new Ring of Remembrance at Notre Dame de Lorette. That was a disappointment because it was closed due to the ice causing the surfaces to become slippery and dangerous. It was so cold that the very lovely Mrs Godders would not let me get out of the car. Arras, as always, was a delight and it is so easy to get to. What was interesting is that in my hotel the British Legion had left a collection tin and a box of poppies. Besides the usual cross with a poppy they also had ones shaped as a crescent for Muslims and others as the Star of David for the Jewish fallen. At home I had seen neither of these before. I also did some food shopping as our Christmas is always a mixture of British, French and German specialities and treats.
I am hoping to do a Champagne weekend, so when I do, I may pm you for that Champagne house recommendation. My trip to the office was intended to be to collect goodies en route for Christmas dinner.... I will be disappointed if I can't make it. Imagine no Epoisses or Delice de Pommard at Christmas????? Ps. Did you know Epoisses is banned on public transport in France?
We have to leave our car doors and windows open for a week when we get back from France to try and remove the smell of all the cheese. Even then the grandchildren refuse to travel in it until we get an air freshener fitted.
