I spoke to the press office at LR this morning to see if the match on Saturday is still going ahead due to the mindless looting (that is EXACTLY what the trouble is about) going on. They are not expecting any trouble at the game, but there are concerns that the Met Police will be overstretched dealing with these thieving ****s and cannot police the game proplerly. I was told to keep an eye on the offish. Suggest you guys do the same.
I live near Selhurst Park and virtually all the shops have closed and battened down the hatches. Even the Wetherspoons is closed. Local supermarkets are all shutting and there's really an ugly mood in the area. Gangs of youths are hanging around and there's no doubt it's all going to go off again. The police won't allow the match to go ahead on Saturday with their resources so stretched, so we may have the disadvantage of two away matches for starters. Yet another pain in the arse out of our control. Millwall mate said Surrey Quays shopping centre closed and there's trouble brewing there. Could be a lively night tonight...
I cant believe this! I've been looking forward to this all summer like most of you guys. Just come back from Ibiza this morning to the news of these riots. No QPR game on Saturday - absolutely gutted! The only positive is we may have some more time to buy some much needed defenders and this takeover to go through.
Train tickets booked for me too. Holding out hope that normality will return to London by the weekend but I am not confident. I am however confident of a win if game does go ahead. Hopefully see you all there.
Apparantly they tried to kick it off in shepHerds bush, but the Market traders saw them off! Brilliant if true.
PREMIER LEAGUE STATEMENT Posted on: Tue 09 Aug 2011 Premier League & Football League statement The Premier League and Football League are saddened by the recent incidents of civil unrest and the effect it is having on local communities. We are in on-going discussions with our London-based Clubs, the Metropolitan Police and statutory authorities in regard to the staging of the coming weekend's fixtures in the capital. The Metropolitan Police has conveyed to us the dynamic nature of the current situation and with that in mind all parties will review the situation on Thursday and make a further public statement at that time. Article continues Advertisement With the information currently available to us there is no reason to think any matches outside of London will be affected. We are conscious of the need to keep fans informed of any developments and will, of course, keep them as up-to-date as possible through Club, league and media channels.
Well if Tottenham is going ahead then they will all be, nowhere is in worse condition than N17 now, not even Croydon or Peckham
@greypeacock Shaun Derry Really hope our game goes ahead on sat but more importantly really hope this madness stops!.police needed at more important places than ============================================ Doesn't sound like someone who is leaving.
QPR supporter interviewed in London by the norwegian PL broadcaster, he was absolutely gutted that the match may not go ahead. I have invited several people over for saturdays live game v Bolton, it will completely wreck my weekend if it's off!
The PL statement says to check the media and websites - we'll probably announce whether the game is on or off in the programme ... and it'll cost you £3 to find out!!!
Although they are not liked I would like to say fair play to millwall fans all out protecting their high street, mind you probably doing it hoping for a scrap.
