Being a 43yr old, supporting QPR since I was 8, I like most of you, have been through highs (1-4 @ OT, 1-0 @ LRd) and lows (Vauxhall Bangers), but the best ever happened last week....... ...... I arrive into the kitchen around midnight, after a 2hr drive from the airport, shagged tired after a crap week, and there on the kitchen table was .......... Shaun Derry! On a Match Attax Premiership card. Which my 10yr old daughter had got that day. And left for her Dad. "There now", I said to myself, "we've made it, we're there"! So, lads and lassies, there will be highs and lows this season. We will get vexed with whoever is the flavour of the week to get vexed at. We will think all is well when we beat the likes of Chelsea, and say we're only X number of points away from the 45 pts (or whatever it is). We will give 2 out of 10 ratings to everyone on the pitch if Wolves beat us at home, and say that's another 3 pts less to get us to the 45 pts (or whatever it is). So, lads and lassies, when you get vexed at the Rs, and feel there is no hope this season, pull out the ould Shaun Derry Match Attax card, and say to yourself, "we've made it, we're there". By the way, slept like a bay, I did that night......
funny isnt it - my boy has Barton, Luke young and unfortunately 2 Fitz Halls - at 9yrs old during blackburn game he looked at me and said 'now i know why he is only 1 star'
Great stories My youngest son lives with his mother and step dad ... Over 13 years I have had to watch him wear Chelsea shirts and he even at a early age met all the stars ... Plus the whole family had season tickets at one point. I have been QPR since birth but never pushed my team onto my sons... It was always their choice ... However took them a few times to LR and it didn't take long and last season they all came out of the closet ... It's wonderful to know that they have naturally chosen their roots. They are now proud to support a proper club and the Chelsea shirts were sent to Africa Next we are about to beat Man City at home .... Get in there !
Be thankful that you are not a Chelsea fan. One fan came home in the early hours, tired from a hard week of proper work, only to find John Terry on the kitchen table who, while the fan stood there openmouthed, jumped up and rush out of the kitchen door leaving the fan's wife alone on the table. Soon after, the neighbours could hear shouts and screams coming from the kitchen. They could hear the anguished cries of the Chelsea fan as he shouted, "You stupid woman. What do you mean you didn't get his autograph?"
Great story and you must be a very proud father. My son is only 6 and I can't wait to take him to his first match at Loftus Road.
