Massive City have clinched a lucrative deal from mega brand Nike..... Right lets stop there. This deal, is likely to be the same as the current deal with Umbro.... City get £6million from Umbro in a 10 year deal that runs til 2019. Next season the deal automatically rises to £26million a season until the end of the contract. Now Nike own Umbro so essentially there is no new deal only a transfer of the deal from one of Nikes brands to their main brand. Seems a strange on thats for sure, I mean under Nike it runs to 2019 just like the Umbro one did. What are they doing?
Might be easier to sell it if it's Nike? There's Nike stores over here in the states. Might give them a greater distribution of sales.
Its the same company drogs plus Nike wont make any cash from City. Nobody knows who they are, takes alot more than getting to the top or indeed winning the title to do that and get a following around the world. If so the Blackburn would be a mega club.....they are most certainly not.
And to become a mega club you need publicity and to get your name out there...which is what Nike will be doing surely?
Switching to a much more well-known brand, seems pretty logical to me, and I would be surprised if the terms of the deal aren't improved at least somewhat. Isn't going to hurt their kit sales thats for sure. City are trying to build a following around the world, long way to go but they're certainly going in the right direction in that regard
Nothing has changed it seems, nothing but Umbro ( owned by Nike ) now says Nike. City have no worldwide foloowing and it will take a lot more than 7 years to get one, Chelsea dont have that big a following and they started off in a much stronger position as a football club than City. Infact Chelsea pre Roman were bigger than City are now or will be anytime soon. They dont have the appeal imo, not yet. Its possible Nike just want another top team on their books and the fact its a good way to get the nike brand out there. Anyway if City are getting £26million a year then I would expect us to be negotiating a kit deal of about £260million per year as we dwarf City in every aspect in marketing terms.
Well changing to logo in the shirt is no huge difference but it's a bit of publicity and Nike being much more well-known than Umbro it should make it that much easier to market and sell the kits. I don't see any negative aspects from City's point of view, they can only benefit from it.
Its just a weird one, always expected some made up company to sponsor them for some insane amount. Least thats what people were saying about how the FFP rules wont hurt them. Maybe this shows that City have realised they cant just get massive deals unless they fit the bill and size of their club.
Man, you fail at trying to hide your bitterness in barely logical posts. Noone knows them yet they have managed to sign players of much better quality than you lot have managed over the last few years, for nobodies thats not bad. Noone even knows who their coach is eh You're getting thicker by the day bro
I'm almost amazed you think they are just going to carry on spending fortunes until the new rules kick in and then go "oh fk what have we been doing?" Kind of doubtful that is what's on the cards
If I bought a North West Counties team and offered players £300k a week to play for me I could sign most players no problem. If you think City are a major world wide club you are mistaken. Wouldnt of thought you were that stupid, I mean its almost at the point Liverpool fans consider City the bigger club, which means they are much bigger than Liverpool. How the mighty have fallen eh?
What? Are you off your tits. How are City going to make up the £285 million losses they make in 1 year? Well they aint selling and they aint making it through sponsorship. They aint doing it. There only hope is to spend and go all out for the CL before they are warned and then banned from europe.
It's just a sign of City's growing profile. Nike keeps the Nike and Umbro brands separate as Nike is the premium brand and Umbro is the mass market one. City used to be a better fit for Umbro - get some publicity benefits but none of the market appeal of a big club. Now City have had some success they have a bigger global appeal so they get moved to the premium brand. That way Nike can stick City players on their adverts alongside all the Utd and Arsenal players.
Yeh makes sense, they think they should have the champions on their premier brand which makes sense. Doesnt do too much for City mind as shirt sales wont increase or anything due to Nike upgrading them. They should of stayed with Umbro, better kits after all.
Exactly. Nike rely on trying to get every major celebrity and club signed to their brand to blanket the market. They'll definitely jump at the chance to have both the best two teams in England wearing Nike kits, particularly when the City brand currently comes cheaper than any of the big four. Aye, but City don't really benefit much from the shirt sales, just from the additional £s on the cheque they get. Tho' as Manobear says City may manage to get more sales in places like the US, where the Nike brand is much bigger than Umbro. And when did football clubs ever care about the quality of their kits? Liverpool have happily agreed to wear lacrosse kits in exchange for an extra few million quid!
The dont but when you are a small, sorry tiny club like City it would help to have a decent shirt so that ne fans may buy it rather than throw up on it. Not that I could imagine Citys kit ever being worn like a fashion outfit like some kits.
