eMay I at first apoligize to all those that couldn't care a jot about my grandson Jacob being a mascot yesterday for the Charlton v Reading game.

A great experience for a ten year old looking around and rubbing shoulders with up to 20 Charlton first team players.....nearly too much for a ten year old to take in all at once.

Started at 1pm when met at the main entrance (Directors & Players entrance) by a lady who started off by giving the mascots (including a special needs lad, two young-uns and a Reading lad as well + Jacob) a Charlton holdhall, which contained a Charlton medallion in a presentation box, a club silk scarf, autograph book, pen, arm bracelet and programme....which contained a photo and write up about him).

Went upstairs to the foyer which had on the wall a large plaque.....containing the names of all the players that had represented their country whilst a player for Charlton.....quite a few actually (40 maybe), she spoke about it and asked the mascots questions about it plus other various facts....this part of the tour included the families of the mascots as well.....we all had a look around and then came out to the pitch through the directors box (at least 50 plush seats)....continued down the steps to the dug-outs, I must admit the dug-outs which was about 3or4 step lower than the pitch....must be about the worst place to watch a match from....personally a poor view of the proceedings from such a position.

The mascots were taken down to the changing rooms, met the players, autographs etc and saw the players getting massages and being prepared for the match......when the players had their pitch warm-ups....tha mascots were handed over to the trainers and they had a kick around on the half-way line.....which it was obvious to us that Jacob really enjoyed....in front of 15000 fans.

The final bit was walking out with the team whilst the music played....lining up and shaking hands with the Reading players.....then a photo with the captains and officials.

When the mascots went down to the changing rooms....the families were taken to the Crossbars lounge....which seperates the upper and lower tiers of the home area behind the goal.....the lounge runs the full width of the pitch.....looking out on to the pitch.....there was an eating area plus two large bars....I reckon you could get at least a thousand in there.....but a season ticket would cost you more if you signed up for it....but a fantastic area....which makes PAFC's lack of a drinking area for fans a real joke.....and shows you how far behind PAFC has slipped in recent years.

This whole stadium not long ago was derelict.....with bushes and trees growing on the playing area.....and Charlton playing home matches at C Palace.....oh for some one with vision to see what is possible....this club was stoney broke back then and have built since a stadium seating 27000.

Jamie Mackie played the full match for Reading....he did ok.....but you had the feeling that Readings minds where looking towards a Cup semi-final and although not doing well in the league they should not be worried about relegation.

An experience that I enjoyed more than I thought I would.....and chuffed to see my grandson taking central stage.....he'll have memories that will last him a long time.....during the match my son kept checking the Argyle game for me on his phone.....doh.......at least I saw 5 goals in Charltons 3-2 win.

Why....I've been supporting Argyle for my sins for over 60 years......I just wish that PAFC was run as well as CAFC.

My fault that my Grandson supports Charlton.....I took my son and his mate down there in the 1980's to introduce him to pro-football

I have noticed on your home page DC....that you have no idea how to spell the name of the team you supposed to support .....why is that I wonder ?

Like the small family we are on here Plymborn told us previously his grandson was going to be a mascot for the day. Clearly you haven't been watching for long Daddy Cool. As we are a small family we are always interested in others and what they are up to. Do share if you want to throw something onto the table.

Bet he was over the proverbial for hours Plym. Has he come down yet?

Glad you had a good day Plymborn. When you are so far from home, you get your football where you can. I went to Fulham quite regularly when in London, never replaced Argyle as the result I look for first though.

It is tiring though isn't it. I got banned from ATD, wrongly in my opinion, but I've never once even tried to sign on again. Why bother for christ sake and it isn't even fun. All it does is show what a pri*k somebody is.

I'm with you there Mrs J and it doesn't bother me as such either, but it's just so juvenile. I assume these are supposed grown ups just acting their shoe size rather than age. I'd just leave them on a board and everyone just put them on ignore. Type away with no audience if they wish. When nobody bothers to respond then the joke ain't working.

On the chance of boring you all a bit more.....an update on my grandsons mascot experience.

Jacob popped in yesterday after school.......and was so chuffed that he walked out holding the hand of Yoni Buyens the Belgium mid-field player.....who scored two goals Saturday.....one a penalty.....I suggested to him that he should phone the club up......offering his services as a lucky mascot...seeing that his player did so well.

I got a good picture of him coming out of the tunnel with Buyens.....we where sitting two rows up next to the tunnel.

PS.....a defensive mid-field player scoring twice.....obviously doesn't play for Argyle then.

He has scored 8 goals this season.

Not boring at all plym it just got sidetracked by an idiot is all.

No doubt he was chuffed (as long as it wasn't like a badger) and it must be a great day out for youngsters. You can see it on their faces when they do it at internationals and stuff on the tele. I've never been one to be star struck but then again if I'd had the opportunity at his age then maybe I would be. No need to talk Charlton up on this site please. We have a central defender who has scored 5......If the lad is that lucky a mascot you should be bringing him down here never mind some other club. I'd buy him a pasty and pint.

You got a point there sensible......we could do with that sort of luck......Jacob probably thinks that Plymouth is one stop from USA.

No.No,mustn't buy him a pasty and a pint......of course I could help him out there........I'll eat the pasty.........<doh>
