Sylvain Marveaux seems to be building up quite a reputation on Tyneside, for a player who has made just six appearances so far this season for the Newcastle first team.

Marveaux was impressive in last night’s 3-0 victory by the Newcastle Reserves side at Bolton, and he would have impressed watching manager Alan Pardew, and he scored two second half goals too.

But like most of the lads at Newcastle these days, he is showing a real team spirit and Sylvain is willing to wait for his chance in the Newcastle first team.

We don’t know what Alan Pardew and his coaches are saying to the players these days, but whatever it is - it’s working.

This is what Sylvain said today:

Simply Marveaux-lous how everybody is fighting for a chance for the first team.

I think if we going to become successful in the coming years we need a strong squad with players like Sylvain, who will not throw their dummies out of the pram, if they are not in the starting eleven. :cheesy:

To be successful we will need this competition in defence as well as midfield and attack

I've seen enough of the lad to know that he should be in the first team ahead of Obertan. Obertan may get up the pitch quicker, but what does it ever come to? Marveaux is calm, quick and skilful and will offer us a lot more.

This. There is no one threatening the strikers(I will ban anyone who says Lovenkrands) and no one challenging the centre of defence. Santon should be close to a start and when fit, he won't be touched. The only competition we seem to have is in midfield.

You think he should be in the team ahead of himself?

Exactly mate. We need another centre back, probably keeper when Harper leaves as Forster will leave and Elliot seems gash, 2 fullbacks and a striker. Possibly another holding midfielder too haha

    If we had:

    Krul

    Santon - Taylor - Coloccini - Pieters

    Tiote - Cabaye

Marveaux - Ben Arfa - Jonas

    Anelka ;)

    and a second team of:

    Harper

    Simpson - Williamson - Onuoha - Taylor

    Obertan - Gosling - Diarra - Vuckic

    Ba - Best

with players like the 2 Ameobi's, Ferguson, Abeid possibly Guthrie and few more we would have a really good squad. Not necessarily these players, but players like that with quality

Disagree with Onuoha and Anelka, we should have gone in for Ridgewell or Dann from the Brummies in the Summer, and as a striker someone in the mould of Moussa Sow

The simple answer to our defensive cover problem is Ridgewell:

    starting back 4:

    Simmo--Saylor--Collo--Santon

    Back-up:

    Raylor--Willo--Ridgewell--Fergie*

*Although Ridgewell would cover here too :)

Good to hear about Marv as well.

Marveuax's finish for his first goal the other night was class.

Made the Bolton keeper look like a right mug.

Dann? I haven't seen much of him but he was terrible against us for Blackburn. Looked really slow and sluggish, and his anticipation was really poor. I wouldn't want him at the toon, but maybe we didn't get to see his strengths against us? (what are they?!)

Can I say Shola then? Just kidding. I agree...we need competition up front with at least 1 more good striker, I think Shane Long would've been good for us. Also, we still need 1 more fullback for competition imo.

Its great that we have competition in midfield but as people are saying need to build depth in other areas of the pitch. My priorities would be another striker, fullback and cover in the centre of defence as we are only an injury and suspension away from being left very short in this area.

VScott dann is nowhere near the standard of cb we should be going for, he excelled in a poor team, lassian diarra someone mentioned would get in our team ahead of tiote for me diarra when on form and playing reguarly is the best dm in the world.

I think we need a decent striker like van wolfswinkle, huntelaar etc and then a speedy striker as back up to our otheer strikers, maybe shipwae tshabalala? Might need an sp on that lol. As for cb's I think maybe instead of a young player we could do with an older experienced player like carvaliho, we could definatly do with a lb I think warnock would be a good shout as its been mentioned he's available. I'd even take junior hoilett from blackburn he's impressed me this year and can play as a striker or midfield.
