Hopefully the ounces of class and good build up play over the last couple of weeks will build up to us going back to our passing style of football. We are not made for long balls, and even if we don't have our best creative players available, we should be able to play good football and win games due to it.

We played some good football vs Stoke, and we produced some fantastic quality during Wigan.

What we've lacked at times without Cabaye is a sort of central creative spark. Do you think Marveaux could fill that role for now?

    Ba/Cisse-----Ba/Cisse------Ben Arfa

    --------------Marv---------------

    ------Anita-----------Tiote-------

    Santon---Colo-----Willo--------Simpson

    --------------Krul--------------------

Marv has skill on the ball, can run at teams, and his short range passing is good. He's not that great on the wing IMO, therefore he should be played in a CAM role. He's far more effective in that role, picking up balls and slotting through players.

I know there's some debate about this formation and how it effects Ba and Cisse, but I think we should just play it and swap Cisse and Ba around and let them have turns in the strikers role. Ba started in the ST role against Wigan, and Cisse on the right. Ba scored two, then he dropped back and let Cisse have a shot in the striker position and Cisse did ok.

4-1-2-3 or 4-2-3-1, it doesn't matter because the players will get forward and attack anyway.

    Anyone agree?

For anyone that doesn't understand my 4-2-1-3 idea, this is what it looks like properly -

In absolute agreement. I know Ben Arfa is rumoured to be back but if he's not I'd play Marveaux wide left, Bigiramana beside Tiote, push Anita higher up and move Cisse wide right and swap Ba and Cisse the same as Wigan, if necessary.

I agree Marveaux is better in the middle but if Ben Arfa isn't available I'd do anything to keep Gutierrez out of the team, he's been our worst player this season so far!!

Gutierrez has just lost his legs. I think we've basically worn him out. He was an attacking midfielder by trait, yet we asked him to play in a heavily involved role which meant he had to work his ass off in defence and also go forward and help out in attack. He's been running lengths of the pitch for the last couple of seasons, and it's probably aged him incredibly.

He did well when doing a defensive cover role last year but the rest of his game is diabolical and always has been. The only reason he got a place on the XI was because of his work rate. Now he can't do that he's even worse than he already was.

I don't think that's fair really. He scored 4 goals last season and couple 4/5 assists also. We need to look for better, yes, but he deserves credit for the work he's done. I still think he could be of some use.

I know no one has said it yet but I was calling for Bigiramana to replace Gutierrez at HT vs Wigan ( see match thread ). The euphoria of his goal isn't my deciding factor.

It sounds harsh I agree but you can't tell me he's ever been good a keeping possession, winning tackles and creating as much as is expected of a midfield never mind an occasional winger. Credit where credit is due, he gave everything to us but his time is done but of course a bit part role is still there, like Shola

Marveaux playing the entire game last night would suggest he wouldnt start vs Fulham. Back to 4-4-2 this one i think, unfortunately.

I think is was an attempt to get him confident and raring to go on Monday. Playing Monday is a huge help and must have been going through Pardew mind. It shouldn't affect our selection issues with the extra 1.5 days rest.

Only problem with this is I fail to see where the confidence would have been bred from, Marveaux and most of the other players were poor. Slight backfire which is why I think Pardew wasn't too happy on his post match interviews!

Depend which Marveaux turns up. The Wigan one (which was slightly lopsided view due to space created by 10 men) or the one from last night and countless other games. If its the latter I wouldn't want him anywhere near our first team.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Marveaux is sexy and you know it...

Tash, love the formation porn, however, why oh why always symmetrical? Are you autistic?

    I'm going for:

    --------------Cisse--------------

    ---------Ba----------------------
    ----------------------Marv-------

    ---Jonas------------Anita--------

    --------------Tiote---------------

    Santon0----Colo--Willo-----Simpson

    --------------Krul-----------------

    Or, just for you Tash:

    --------------Cisse--------------

    ---------Ba----------Marv-------

    ---Jonas---------------------Anita

    --------------Tiote---------------

    Santon0----Colo--Willo-----Simpson

    --------------Krul-----------------

Now, the more astute users my note my obsession with the Mighty Ducks attacking V formation (all I have to say to that charge is that you are a Quackers). My reasoning behind the formation is that it is the perfect counter-attack style, suck them in then fly out in that magnificent V to sweep the ball into the next and stick it to those puck bullies! Also, Demba and Cisse are about as effective out wide as a galaxy wrapper i when used as contraceptive....

It seems Pardew, by signing Cisse, has created quite a situation for himself in terms of picking a starting 11. Cisse and Ba need to be the strikers, but then someone such as Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa or Guitierrez miss out on a starting spot. Whichever of the Senegalese lads you start out on the flank seems to become ineffective and it's a tricky situation to be in.

There's been rumours of Premier League sides getting ready to trigger an apparent £7.5million release clause in Demba Ba's contract and TBH, I could see him going. Unless of course one of your midfielders wouldn't mind dropping down to the bench which is also harder to do after the signings of Anita and Marveaux.
