Dave Whelan has informed SSN that Martinez has been offered the position and further talks will be held on Tuesday.

To be fair, it was Dave Whelan who had broke it to SSN.

Dave Whelan says that LFC will hold further talks on Tuesday (i.e. Martinez has until Tuesday to accept the offer).

this is not what ssn is saying.

they are saying further talks with martinez on tuesday.

this could be taken a few ways.

    1. he is on a very short list of people.
    2. they have to talk terms and he's going back to barbados and then to england next week now.
    3. he's going to be announced on tuesday.

I can't say which but i would presume at minimum no 1 is likely... the short list must be one or two men at this point.

Why can Whelan not keep his mouth shut?

Delighted if this comes to fruition, we need to take a chance on someone and Martinez is a good, young manager. Really hope he has some money to spend, not just on tranfers but to up our wage structure perhaps so we can keep players like Suarez?

Whelan needs to zip it though jeez - does he like being on TV or something?

Apparently Martinez wants more control. If this is the case and FSG give in to his demands, then why not just go for a better manager?

Should be interesting to see what Martinez does from here.

Im worried that Martinez won't have the pull that bigger names will have when it comes to signing new players.

I expect a big hitting DoF would help here...

This is why it's imperative to bring in a high profile DoF

It seems whelan is stirring again. I am not sure if he's just telling the truth and using it to force the deal through and get comp and move on or even force us to drop martinez so he can keep him.... I'd hope he has at least some integrity to be using the truth to his own ends and not lying about offers to stir.

we must remember that "an offer" may still mean he's one of a couple of serious contenders... though most likely if we have a whole weekend plus monday i'm sure every other candidate will jump to reject us publically so they don't look bad.

We'll see soon enough... I can wait to see formally.....

We'd better beat wigan next season and relegate the guy.

If this is true, I'll get right behind him, hope he does a good job.

Hell of a gamble, and we just lost 2 Gambles on Roy and Kenny. I worry about signings too, cant see people coming to us because of who our DoF is, its the manager they will work with.

IF we can pull this off, then I would be a lot more optimistic about Martinez.

Times are now reporting that sources close to FSG are denying these claims made by Whelan.

Whelan really is a top class plonker. Suppose we should be grateful his manager is not Harry Redknapp. Can you imagine that!!!!

I'd laugh if whelan gets his pound of flesh off villa and still gets relegated... the big question is just who the HELL would take the wigan job? no money, half a team at best, no fans... muck ball pitch.... i think their next manager will be interesting.

Maybe lfc should do an interview with sky everyday suggesting they need to work faster.
