I think Martinez is a great manager and it certainly would make more sense

I can't shake the feeling that a lot of this is simply down to the fact that we played villa on the last day of the season

Villa fans would have chanted "there's only one steve kean" if they'd been playing Blackburn, they just want anyone other than macca. He's proper taken the heat for players that just haven't performed.

McLeish never stood a chance from the day he walked the doors at Villa Park, shame for him that he came directly from the blue side of the City and didn't go somewhere else before moving back to Birmingham.

I remember not everyone was happy when Brain Hamilton was appointed manager for us but he never got the grief McLeish has had.

I agree totally Thai and the other thing that makes it more pathetic is that McLeish is obviously Scottish and has no affinity to Birmingham at all. He was only there a short time too so hardly an entrenched position. It all makes Villa fans look daft.

i stand by my first inkling regarding the villa job - they won't get a manager currently in work. they might want one, but they won't get them <ok>

and you may as well ignore the bookies odds at the beginning - they tamper with them to persuade punters to bet on certain people

I believe Roy Keane is still available. Bags of experience, is a big name and gets the best out of football teams <ok>

What would be funny is if villa get into a "wolves" situation where no-one wants the job

    Peter grant is the assistant

    Just saying

Certainly could do worse but would Villa fans like him as he was with the Black Country rivals?

Heard Mark Hughes is a target for them too. Personally could see them get Benitez or Ranieri. Big wages but like Supers said out of work.

I don't think Mick McCarthy would be a popular choice amongst Villa fans though, and Lerner would be stupid to go down the unpopular choice road. I do think they will approach Martinez and he might go.

i mentioned hughes yesterday - he was allegedly their first choice last summer but something went wrong. can't see him going from qpr though, not now. benitez and ranieri are the two most obvious shouts who are free agents at the moment. i'm sure mccarthy wouldn't be deemed 'exciting enough' by villa fans but at the same time i think they need a reality check! that could be it. i can't see any of lambert, martinez or rodgers leaving for villa.

Might be right, will have to wait and see.

Regarding Wigan I would love us to sign James McCarthy!

I believe Harchester United, of Dream Team fame were based in the West Midlands?
