This is a very interesting read. I think Roberto is a brilliant manager and deserves all the plaudits he's getting. Brendan Dodgers and the Swancs are still heavily in debt to him.. http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/05/16/wigan-stay-up-after-a-switch-to-3-4-3/
Martinez is good not brilliant (look where Wigan finished)- yes we owe a lot to him but defensively we were poor when he was in charge - Brendan is better imo. Interesting if Martinez goes to Liverpool that would be a real challenge.
Martinez is brilliant , but there will be a lot that will disagree . We would not be in the Premier League if not for his cheap transfers & 4,000,000 we got for him & Scotland when they left , in my humblest opinion !
Blue if bobby had been in charge this season Swansea would have been relegated for sure, in all honesty bobby is not in the same league as rodgers, bobby was good at 4/5/1 but clueless with any other combination and is use of substitutes was below average at best. He owes the Swans or shall i say Huw Jenkins far more than we will ever owe him. Constructive but honest appraisal no sour grapes here
Breezy Kevin Reeves was the brains behind the transfers, if i am honest i was much more worried when he left than i was about bobby going.
Martinez is a brilliant manager mainly because he is not frightened to be creative. He tries things, stays positive, and seems to communicate well. When Wigan got used to the system and on a roll, there was not a better team to watch!! If he ends up at Liverpool, I think it will be a good match, though I think it will be the end for Wigan.
he's made lots of mistakes in his wigan career, but he's learning from them, and thats the most important thing. he's achieved relative sucess on a shoestring, not many household names in that team but they're a decent team punching above their weight, they could easily have gone down again but they live to fight another season....
I must admit I like and respect Martinez. Has done a great job keeping Wigan in the premiership. He built the foundations at Swansea which Sousa tried to build on then Rodgers has moved the Swans forward. Hats off to Rodgers for refusing to speak to Liverpool.
For me, Martinez is one in a million. I can't think of any other young manager that has created an ethos at a club that survives even after he left. He's a true artisan of the beautiful game and apart from creating a dynasty of style at the Liberty, he continues to play the game the right way. Wigan's survival in the top flight speaks volumes. I hope the man's approach to the game rubs off on all involved with football.
Sensible move I think. Rodgers knows what the Liverpool job is like at the moment, and Liverpool are not the club they were. So I think he is showing commitment to the Swans, but Liverpool probably is not that attractive to him right now anyway. To me you will need to be a very strong personality to take that job....Rafa to come back I think!
his multiple personalities get bored of talking to each other so he pops in the give his ego a little massage
keep on topic please.... anyway sheep FSG the owners of liverpool certainly agree with you, apparently he's been in discussions with them recently....
Thanks for clearing this up Swamp I think Wigan will be bottom of they lose him. Mind you didn't Bruce keep them up?
bruce had a bigger budget, they've cut back a bit in recent years. he's not guaranteed the liverpool job as they seem to be interviewing loads of managers, but if he does go i agree that may tip them over the edge
