Just been watching the SKY coverage of the CSKA v MAN CITY game. During his second half commentary Martin Tyler mentions that Yaya Toure has been the subject of Monkey Noises coming from the CSKA Supporters. The word he used to describe the incident was 'Regrettable'! Only regrettable!!! Regrettable is a word you would use when you have forgotten someone's birthday or left your house keys behind FFS! Regrettable surely isn't the best word to describe Moronic racial abuse! Sorry Mr Tyler but you have gone down in my estimation after your failure to condemn this behaviour. Your comments made it sound like you were in a way just casually explaining away this nasty incident. He the went on to try and justify this behaviour by saying that the Russians have a different mindset to us! God help us especially after last weeks regrettable turn of events! I hope UEFA now take the strongest possible action against these racists and I hope that Martyn Tyler now realises that his use of words are 'regrettable'
A very good point well made warky. It is moronic, uneducated idiots that think this is acceptable in this day and age. It wasn't right 40 years ago so why should it be right now in these days of multi culturism. Martin Tyler has indeed made a fool of himself and should be condemning the so called "fans". It would seem as the rest of the world was shouting revolution revolution the eastern bloc were looking at their thumbs crying evolution evolution. If we can clamp down on this blight then why isn't other associations. Uefa need to have a good long look at themselves.
Admittedly hampy. But c 'mon racism is and should be a thing of the past. Monkey chants. Wtf. I'm English thru and thru but I don't feel the need to verbally abuse the ethnic minorities. You can't honestly think its acceptable and fans banter.
Slightly off topic but this chimes in with the sense that the world has taken leave of all common sense. I went into the Town shop on Saturday to by my 16 year old son a home shirt with all the printing on the back. I asked the assistant if we could also have the SKY BET logo on the sleeve just like the players have. The assistant then asked me how old my son was and so I said 16 without thinking anymore of it. Well I couldn't bloody well believe my ears when she turned round and said with a straight face "Sorry but your Son can not have the SKY BET logo on the shirt because he is under 18 and therefore too young to be advertising betting!" I was just gobsmacked!!! I wouldn't have minded so much but my other son who is 14 wears a Crawley Town top which has 32RED splashed across the front of it! Like I said the world has gone bloody crazy!
Tongue in, as they say, cheek mad ads. UEFA needs to use much tougher sanctions against Eastern European countries - and our own clubs when they're out of line
Cool. It was only after posting I clocked whistling smiley and thought it may have a tinge of sarcasm. :
Think this highlights a problem about the context in which people use language or chants. Sometimes you feel you have to pussy foot around an issue because it might be percieved to be wrong, for example I bet Roy Hodgson won't tell a joke about a monkey again to a black player even though it wasn't remotely racist whereas these Monkey chants clearly are but I bet they won't be punished for it!!! In this day and age you can't believe it's still around, it's disgusting.
Monetary fines as we've seen dished out by uefa are derogatory anyway. Platini needs to grow some minerals and come down hard. I'm sure had it been English supporters he'd be throwing his toys out the pram.
That's incredible! Presumably Newcastle United will have the same problem advertising payday loan company Wonga across the chests of Geordie children? Nah. Spiralling debt isn't a problem, is it?! At least when you gamble you might actually win!
Is this for real? I hope you told them you'd leave the shirt, walked out of planet blue, back in again and repeated the routine this time with the correct answer. I can sort of understand why you might stop kids buying them because their parents might disapprove but, erm, if I'm not mistaken this time you were the parent, of, erm, your son?
What would happen if we wanted to play a 16 year old kid in the first team? I bet they wouldn't have a problem then!
Bloody good point! Oh, hang on, Jack Marriot can't even get a game so not something to worry about...
The girl in the shop had to call over her Supervisor when I queried it and he said with a straight face "It would be breaking the law if we allowed your son to wear a shirt with the SKY BET Logo on it!" And then we have my other Son who has a top with 32RED plastered all over it! It's a bloody joke! I had thought about writing to the Club Shop Manager but then I thought life's far too short! So basically any child under the age of 18 is breaking the law by wearing tops with Betting firms plastered over the front!
