Saturday, April Sunderland > News FOOTBALL Martin O'Neill defends Sunderland tactics By Barney Corkhill, Reporter Filed: Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 15:57 UK Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has defended his side's tactics during their 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon. Spurs dominated possession for much of the game, with Sunderland appearing happy to defend and play for the draw, a tactic that Tottenham skipper Scott Parker was surprised to see. However, O'Neill defended his side's set-up, arguing that he did what he thought he needed to do to make sure that his side got something out of the game. "It's part of football. Should we have allowed them to come here and pick up the three points? I'm afraid it's not like that," said O'Neill. "We still had chances but we were up against a top-quality team who have been vying for a Champions League place and until a couple of weeks ago had the chance to win the league itself. "We ourselves have been frustrated by teams who have sat back." The result leaves Sunderland eighth in the Premier League, level on points with ninth-placed Liverpool. Arry just upset he didn't get a brown envelope after the match the whinger
Nothing to defend IMO Rog, nothing at all, when you consider we were supposed to lose, according to most pundits. and under a previous manager we would have.
The futue beckons Rog, we can only go forward, and what a topsy turvy season we have had. Mon is de man.
Game we would have lost under Bruce this year, with the same team MON gets a draw. Even when we don't fire on all cylinders we get a point against a top 6 team.........now tell me that needs defending!
What exactly are we supposed to be apologising about? Not losing the game and handing Arry all 3 points? They created **** all bar one off the line clearance and we created **** all bar a couple of half chances. I just don't get this possession stat. They had the majority but didn't win. Swansea had 80% possession yesterday and lost 2-0. Keep on rocking them Marty, they don't like it up them. Man City didnt last week and the Spuds didnt today.
Spurs are a better team than us, so we contained them (easily) and had a few moments of our own. A very decent and worthy showing, against top class oppo.
This is totally a media thing, as we had the audacity not too lie down for the supposed better team, it happens all the time, when we get a result as we did last weekend against City it was all about them getting back into it late on and that tit Ballotelli falling out with his team mates over the free kick. Will we ever get a fair crack of the whip in the media, dont hold your breath.
If Tottenham deserved the praise that the southern media believe they do, then Tottenham would have been good enough to beat Sunderland however, they weren't that good.
