indication we are going to have a squad shake up? "We have to produce consistency. I think we should demand this. We have to learn to play four or five games well in a row, and if we’re unable to do that with our present team then we have to look at changing the team." I am surprised it has taken this long before MoN has publically questioned the squad, the plodders that turn up week in week out and put in pathetic performances! I see Louis Saha will not be with us after this month, maybe after today after his contract has been cancelled and well done to the club and get him shifted on, in the summer it looked a decent signing, one that could pay off or might not, as we know now it hasn't so we are getting rid and I am sure McFadden who is on a short term deal won't be here by the end of the month will be gone as well. Apart from Mignolet, Cattermole, Sessegnon, McClean, Johnson, Fletcher and Wickham I wouldn't bat an eyelid if we moved on any of the others and I am sure if a decent offer came in for any of the them we would take it. MoN will want to have a quality squad at his disposal for next season and if that means 3 or 4 following N'Diaye and Mangane into the club this window and 5 or 6 in the summer then so be it.
Sorry Poolie there's more names needed to be added ti that list Bardo, O'Shea, Bramble to name 3. I'd also keep Seb and Gardener both are good enough squad players.
Its all about opinions I guess but imo JOS has been our stand out defender all season. In fact he is one of my leading contenders for player of the season. I'd keep Larsson and Gardener too along with Cuellar, as all 3 are very good squad players who bring something to the table. I'd bin McClean - championship clogger, with the very occassional canny game is the best he will ever be. The likes fo Bardo and Bramble are decent squad players as well although undoubtedly better quality is needed in those positions. Killgallon, McClean, Campbell, Saha, McFadden, Ji, Mohammady and the likes need to go if we are to progress to better than annual plodders.
Agree with this, we are clueless without O'Shea at the back, not only is he a very decent cb but he makes whoever is playing next to him look good as well. McClean can go for me, Championship player at best.
O'Shea is a model pro, excellent reader of the game, good in the air and organises everyone. He is calmness personified for me at the back and that some would get rid of him so easily, shows a massive lack of footballing knowledge on a lot of peoples parts imo. He is a great vice captain and stand in captain as well btw to compliment Catts. Rather than get rid, we should build the defence around him.
That's the only question mark over him for me. He's made a few mistakes as well, but on the whole we're far better with him than without. We need a permanent partner for him who can take over his mantle when injured or his career is over.
This as well for me - JOS has been awesome this season - he is the point of some fans frustration so often when his passing goes awry but his positioning, reading of the game and the way he breeds confidence in the defensive unit is second to none.
O'Shea cant be relied upon to remain fit, should he be our main man at the back? As to player of the season, I dont think so. He has been responible for a few goals as well. He was nutmegged 3 times in 2 bloody games! He is our best defender at the moment, but that shows how **** our other defenders (CBs) are as much as how good he is.... Our central defence needs a full clean out in the summer. Colback (LB), Gardner (CM or RB), Larrson, Sess, Mcclean, AJ, Fletcher, Wickham, Vaughan are good enough to stay imo. Perhaps Cattermole as well. Campbell needs to be loaned out in order to get match fit, he needs to play 5 or 6 games before we can judge him.
