http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/article/martin-allen-leaves-1112310.aspx Really angry at the moment.
I wouldn't waste your emotional energy on anger - it had been coming for a while. There was obviously something not right - whether we'll ever get to know exactly what it was is another matter. Anyone got the odds on Peter Taylor as new manager?
I'm not really sure how this is going to help us financially. I've been a critic of MA's for various reasons but I would not have sacked the man. Scally previously sent a statement to supporters about getting behind the team, when clearly not attending games himself, otherwise he would have known the fans were behind MA. I saw Scally at Shrewsbury yesterday and said to alwaysright he might have gone a long to have another look at the ground...now I can only assume differently.
MA had my backing all the way. I'm a bit gutted to be honest. Hopefully this will turn out to be a masterstroke a la Adkins and Southampton...
Been away a lot recently but thought I would make a special effort to comment on this ridiculous decision. What on earth is Scally thinking of? If we haven't got any money and a small squad where was he expecting us to finish? I really don't get it.
Awful news. What is Scally playing at. Im beyond angry. Maybe there was some truth in the rumours that him and Scally didn't get on.Theres obviously been something going on that we don't know about, but its obvious Martin has been operating on a low budget so maybe Scally wanted him out anyway irrespective of league form. He'll have to find some money for a new man though.
not surprised to be honest, at least we're not going to have the same situation as with stimson and hanging on for too long and hoping it would all be ok, we may yet end up relegated again at the end of the season but i believe if MA had stayed it would've been almost certain I will always be thankful to MA for a wonderful season that i will never forget and wish him the very best of luck wherever he ends up next
No real surprise. Two wins and ten defeats in the last sixteen competitive games is asking for the sack!
We have played some pretty awful football this season, the tactics have been suspect and plan "B" non-existent. Thanks for last season MA but it's time for a change.
Am shocked at this decision I thought MA would be given time to turn it around. I can say i'm happy at him going or with the results that had been this and the rear end of last season. I think a lot of clubs will be laughing and I doubt MA will be out of work for long. I also hope Hess wont be back for a 3rd term and who would come to us now. All the best Martin and many many thanks for what you and your backroom team have done.
My gut feeling is that it is the correct decision at the right time, I will always be grateful for what Martin achieved last season but the style of football and performances this season and to an extent the end of last season especially at home were concerning. I`m not sure he could have changed his style of management and tactics to ensure our survival this season which is so important for the future of the club. A lot will depend on who Paul Scally chooses to be the new manager, a very very important decision to get right. Thanks for all your efforts Martin and the best of luck for the future.
First man to win us a league in 49 years has gone just like that. I questioned his decisions but I never called for his head as I believed he could turn it around. Crewe & MK Dons looked like he had done ut nut now he's gone. For me he was a great man, he knew that us fans were what held the club together and was always willing to talk to or listen to any of us. He personally answered a letter I wrote him which gives credit to how much of a great man he is. Unfortunately I did see it coming, I previously stated there was unrest within the club and this shows it. I wouldn't be surprised as to why he actually went was because of finances. He must have asked for money to get another RB on loan and was told no. He left Brentford for the same reasons and Leiceatrr due to transfer policies. Martin I didn't always agree with you but thankyou for all of your efforts.
Have not commented for a while but a tad pisxxx off. Not always agreed with him but enjoyed our first title last year for a ages, I just hope its not a big mistake and whoever takes over does the business, but with the money spent and the team we have safety was all I was expecting which I think MA would have provided, and unless we are going to spend big time no matter who we get is only going to provide the same. I think it will be taylor. Thanks MA for a great season and good luck. UTG!!!
Managers come and go, we are all thankful to MA for leading us to a league title the first but hopefully not the last for many of us. All managers will do things we disagree with. MA took over at a time when the clubs profile in public was just about to be buried thanks to an issue with a previous employee of the club and he turned it around, he made me proud of my football club, not least because of winning the league. I wish you all the best for the future Mr Allen, and thank you for all you have done.
I actually like Martin as a person and for how we engages with fans so in that sense it's a shame to see him go. However, he had clearly 'lost' the dressing room, you could see from the players body language towards him and how they would answer back when he shouts orders. Personally I think the players mainly turned against him after the Charlie Lee transfer fiasco, Charlie's one of the most popular players in the team therefore how we was treated would have upset a lot of people. Thanks or last season Martin, but I'm in no doubt that this is for the best.
On balance, this is probably the right decision although a bit surprising after two recent wins. The reality is that the football played at home has been pretty poor since 10/11 months ago as we have resorted too often to lumping it up the field or blocking out for a 1-0 win against even the weakest sides. Its clear this won't work long term in League One where teams keep the ball better and forward players are much sharper. Some of Mad Dog's actions have been bewildering (Charlie Lee on and off the transfer list twice this season is the obvious one) but I am sure the squad is good enough and has the ability to play the type of football which will keep us up, with two or three additions to the squad maybe in the transfer window.
I'm shocked at how well some people are taking this news - This man gave us our first title in 49 years - Yes poor start to Lg 1 initially, but we'd turned the corner with the two wins. Defeat away at a decent Shrews side is hardly deserving of the sack the following day! - We're not badly placed in the league now - he would have kept us up - Who on Earth is going to want to manage us now? VERY disappointed. Just when we thought Mr. Scally may have developed half a brain!
