Anyone on here ever dabbled or competed in martial arts? Im sneaking upto 30 and since my first born came along 3 years ago my weight has gone up and my fitness has gone to pot. I used to play football and cricket regularly but all the exercise I get now is footy once a week when I can. I hate the gym but have always fancied taking up a martial art like taekwondo or judo. Anyone know any good places around Sunderland for newbies?
I used to compete regularly as a kick boxer and trained in Quebec near Durham - used to be a Kick Boxing and Kung Fu centre in Sunniside but not sure if it's there any more and I heard the guy who ran it jumped off the Wearmouth bridge a year or so ago (only rumpour mind so don;t say anything if you turn up and he's there!!) Loved doing it when I did - was around the same weight I am now (14st) but had 6 inches less on my waist!! Since my teacher got ill I never went back as no-one knew how hard to "push" me except for her! Google is p[robably your best bet though
I dabbled a little bit with jujitsu many years ago, and have always felt it is the best marshal art for actual combat..
Aye. I boxed as a lad and played club rugby as a winger, so if I couldn't beat you with me fists you couldn't catch me when I legged it Now I'd have to fight as my sprinting days are long gone...
