Poom Full of praise..... Sunderland legend Mart Poom has told Simon Mignolet to keep enjoying his football as the young Belgian's rise to prominence continues. Poom, now 40, has been impressed with what he's seen of the big stopper, who has established himself as a first-team regular since arriving from Sint-Truiden in summer 2010. Mignolet has also become first choice for Belgium and is making rapid progress according to Poom, who made 82 appearances for Sunderland between January 2003 and January 2006. Poom returned to his native Estonia after retiring in 2009 and is currently working for FC Flora Tallinn. He combines his duties in Tallinn with a role as the goalkeeping coach for the national team, for whom he featured an incredible 120 times during his playing career. And he thinks Mignolet has got the footballing world at his feet as the 23-year-old continues to establish himself in the Barclays Premier League. "Simon Mignolet, I don't know him so well but from what I have seen of him he looks good and has everything going for him," said Poom, who famously scored a goal for the Black Cats against former club Derby County. "He's got good presence and he has been playing really well. He's got a big future ahead of him. "The advice I would give to him would be to enjoy what he's doing and work hard, not rest on his laurels and keep doing what he's doing. "He needs to stay focused on what he wants to achieve and, most of all, enjoy it." Random fact of the day.. April 19th...today. 1913 - Sunderland played Aston Villa in the FA Cup Final but lost 1-0 in front of a record crowd of 120,081 at Crystal Palace.
1913 was the year we nearly did the double and the final was the only game we lost between Christmas and the end of the season
I was there that day and can remember the gloom when they scored late, only to be followed by mass hysteria among the Sunderland fans when Poom headed in the equaliser - fantastic !!
